I still have the film somewhere. It led to the famous "Coryell you are a good man, but Jesus son you're not a good football player."

I wasn't very good at it and my eyesight sucked - great if you love getting hit a lot. Still lettered for 2 years and got my jacket. Then before my Sr year my family moved (again) but I decided to stay behind and finish HS at the only one I knew. So, I had no transportation. Decided to stick to the books.

I did atheltic training stuff in high school. My sophomore year, my school scrimmaged mater dei and that was Matt Barkleys senior year. I wasnt paying attention to what was on the field and the next thing I knew, Barkley was running me over. He got pushed out of bounds and I was too close to the sideline so we collided. He put me on my arse and the water bottles flew everywhere. I never lived that down

Right then was when I knew that some guys are just on another level.

When I was a senior, there was a freshman at my high school that ended up being a 6.0 four star receiver.

At 14 he was unstoppable against 18 year olds. No one could cover him. Hell, people couldn't even tackle him. Had like 70 catches for over a thousand yards his freshman year.

I also played against Chad Jackson at Hoover my entire career. One time I went unblocked through the line with a straight shot at him as he was taking the ball from the quarterback. Thought I was about to destroy his sternum and make a big play.

He took a side step and went 50+ yards for a touchdown.

Ridiculous what some people can be as athletes.

I got trucked in middle school by Keiland Williams. I was a DE. Told my parents, I'm good on that.

I played for fun in youth league, but stuck with baseball in high school and beyond.

One of my best friends started at my high school as a 14-year-old freshman. Went for 1K+ plus yards three of four years, aside from our sophomore season because he tore his ACL w/ only like 800 yards on the books.

He ended up at the time being the No. 2 ranked receiver in yards in the state of Texas behind only Jordan Shipley. He had offers from two DI schools and went to Baylor (Which we sucked balls in 2009 at the time, but right in the transition) where he played safety

Always thought it was odd how talent was judged sometimes.

This is funny but I realized all the hot girls were in the fan section of high school games and I asked myself "do I want to be in the game or cheer alongside these daisy dukes...hmm welp, jr high ball was the end of the road for me"

It worked out well as a result

High school ended. Had an invitation to walk on the local JUCO team as pretty much a practice dummy. Decided just to take the JUCO baseball scholly.

I was very cognizant of my size limitations in football so I chose to stick with my first love, baseball, instead. I was a good athlete but I wasn't trying to get killed

Same for me. Played freshman football then spring training they put 5'9 160 lb me at LB and I knew it was time to give it up.
