What Kelvin Sampson has done at Houston is pretty remarkable

Houston has been a machine for the last 6 seasons. He has brought them back to their glory days of the past. Houston made the tournament 1 time in 26 seasons before he was hired. Even more impressive they moved from the AAC to the Big 12, which is a great basketball conference, and haven't skipped a beat.
It makes me think about what he would have done at Indiana if he wasn't run out of town for the terrible evils of impermissible phone calls. Compare that mild stuff to the wild west of NIL these days.
He had Indiana rolling too in only 2 seasons. Safe to say Indiana would be a juggernaut again if Kelvin Sampson was still coaching. Indiana has been shite for about 15 years outside of a couple of good seasons under Tom Crean where they ended up choking in the tournament.

He's a fantastic coach if you can keep him away from ncaa violations, which really don't exist anymore.

I’m an Indiana fan and you are right. But at that time Kelvin was a violation machine and was told numerous times to “help us help you” kind of thing. Unfortunately he just couldn’t stop with the petty bullshite. He’s killing it at Houston and IU still wishes for days of Robert Knight.

He also had OU pretty solid. Eduardo Najera GOAT

He can flat out coach, I forgot he had a 5 year Show Cause due to violations at OU snd IU. How things have changed.

It’s crazy to me how colleges hire coaches like him and Pearl with a huge history of violations everywhere. Or even personal issues, like Beard, Jans, Bliss etc, I wouldn’t want anything to do with them

He never would have made it if Woodward was his AD.

Sampson had it coming. The reinvention of NIL is his saving grace.

There isn't an Indiana fan alive that looks at Sampson and doesn't think of what could have been, but he really left them little choice.
Woody isn't the answer either and they are stuck with him for at least another year.

It truly is. Anthony Grant could learn from him.

Sampson is an elite coach, no doubt. But the Fertitta money train has helped as well.

I've gone to a couple of his coaches shows. He has the ability to answer questions from regular people, and calmly and clearly explain concepts in a way that even dumb guys like me can understand. Not all coaches have that ability or passion for teaching.
After one of the shows, I told my dad that I could easily see Sampson being everyone's favorite history professor or something like that if coaching weren't his calling. He's a student of the game who enjoys talking about it.

I’m a big Indiana Basketball fan, and it pains me to see how great Kelvin Sampson has been at Houston. Like you said for the better part of 15-20 years IU just can’t get it right consistently. Kelvin Sampson had IU at 22-4 Year 2 before getting the axe. In my honest opinion I think Indiana has 2-4 more trips to the Final 4, and a Title or 2 if Sampson is still their HC right now.
