More than just bad luck. His velocity and spin rate is off significantly. Maybe an injury or he’s gotten in bad habits with his mechanics.

Yeah, when my Reds get 5 runs on you and knock you out after 4 innings, well that ain't good. His pitches just don't look very electric right now.

Nothing is wrong with Skenes. You’re knowledge of MLB, definitely.

You’re not paying attention if you think nothing is wrong. Velocity and spin rate are way down. That’s not “nothing”.

With the admission that I haven’t seen but maybe ten pitches of Skenes’ career.

1. Sometimes people perform above their head for a period of time and then regress back down to mortal numbers due to less good fortune or opponents catching up their style. Marino’s early numbers were a lot better than what he posted midcareer.

2. It likely has zero to do with his struggles, but having a professional attention seeker as your SO probably isn’t ideal for a young MLB pitcher.

3. The pitch speed numbers are concerning, but if the Pittsburgh staff doesn’t have an answer for it I sure as hell don’t.

It’s not wise to assume they don’t know what’s going on.

Skenes certainly knows what’s going on, and he would have certainly relayed that to the staff, and that overwhelmingly likely happened sometime when that velocity suddenly dipped.

Well, they need to figure it out one way or another.

Anyone know why Paul did not like the previous pitching coach? Thought it was odd they got rid of the guy after Skenes won ROY, Cy in back to back seasons.

He’s still throwing full pitch count outings every 5th day, and he’s got too much character to turn into Rick Vaughn. It’s gotta be mechanical.

[ Pirates ran him into the ground ]

The guy pitches 5 innings a week and he's 24 years old. They protect the shite out of him.

As stated in another post they coddle the hell out of him. They've shut him down early the last two years. Pitchers nowadays are babied and coddled and they never get to let their body get used to handling the stress of pitching a full MLB season for many years. Like so many other things on today's world trying to protect and baby them has actually become a disservice to them.

Baseball is the only sport that works its athletes backwards.

They abuse the hell out of young arms in travel ball when the players are young and then coddle the arms when they turn pro.
