I don’t think this US team is that good, think they lost to Hogwarts last week…

Ill give a comparison, remember the "4 corner offense" NC basketball played one season where they passed the ball back and forth until the defense fell asleep and then would toss in a layup, game scores in the 20s. That is "traditional cricket.

Five days, with a tea break each afternoon, and it can still end up a tie.

T20 is like the institution of the 24 second clock in basketball.

Traditionalists hate it because it has totally transformed the sport. Used to be you played for your national team or rather were "chosen" by the ole chaps at the cricket club. With T20 a pro league in India has made millionaires of kids in the Caribbean who had to beg to get on the team for the "honor" of making chump change at home. Now they play in India, its broadcast worldwide, they get great pay, sponsorships, and nice fringes to boot.

They play 20 overs instead of 50, it’s much shorter so you don’t need near the squad depth. Upsets are much more common. A better comparison is Sevens rugby compared to Union.

Cricket and rugby has always fascinated me, but I have no idea how they are played.

Learning the rules seems like trying to learn a new language and I barely speak English.

Basically, a bunch of weekend warriors just beat pros.

You're not wrong. The dude who bowled the super over works at Oracle.

This result is insane. Bigger than Chaminade over Virginia. More far-fetched than the Miracle on Ice. The only thing I can think of that comes close is beating England at the 1950 World Cup with another bunch of weekend warriors. It's like your neighborhood's pickup team took down the 76ers in the NBA playoffs.

Cricket is sort of like baseball with two bases and you stay up and keep batting until you're out - just keep switching sides. 4 runs for the equivalent of a standing rules double and 6 runs for the equivalent of a home run.

Rugby's just football without the forward pass or downs.

Now for the actual rules? Yeah, that gets complicated, but so does trying to explain things like intentional grounding.

Nah.

It’s like “Baseball is a fricking long game. Let’s just play one inning.”

More like if the World Series was 3 games instead of 7. T20 games are about the same length as a baseball game.

I didn’t realize they turned the AirHogs stadium into a cricket stadium. I always thought it was too nice of a facility for independent minor league baseball, and last time I was up there it was just sitting vacant. Maybe Ft Worth can finally do something with the old Cats Stadium.

Having a cricket match in North Texas would presumably draw a crowd. There are a TON of Indians in North Texas.
