I've read all of this debate concerning GSP's style, and a quote from Herm Edwards comes to mind.

"YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME."

If you want to defeat him, prevent him from WINNING!

Challengers coming up, Need to impress. Champions have the luxury of doing what works for them.

Knock out fans remind me of home run fans in baseball. Yeah homers are exciting. Say your team had 4 hits and three were home runs, but lost 8-3, because the other team had 15 singles. Your power team still lost. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!

GSP hits singles, and plays exceptional defense, and wins, and wins, and wins.

I have no problem with how gsp dominated Diaz even though it was pretty boring to watch. Gsp controlled the tempo and stayed away from diaz's strengths. Then at the end when he stood with Diaz, Diaz stood around with his hands down and barely threw a punch.

Just because people want more exciting fights doesn't mean they're asking for knock out fests

We all get it. Gsp's style dominates and he wins. But, its boring as frick to watch.

He is the definition of a point fighter.

Also, the first fight on the PPV card was even more boring than the main event. Why does the UFC insist on putting mediocre strikers with no ground game on the main card?

do you hear the boos when even the most technical grapplers in the world are rolling? ufc crowds are dominated by people who only want to see the knockout.

the demian maia v john fitch fight is one of the highest level grappling matches in recent memory and the fight was nothing but boos after the first 2-3 minutes.

go ALL the way back to the diaz sanchez fight and even back then the crowd is hating the grappling even though that was ~maybe~ the best bjj match in ufc history.

the only respectful crowd i have seen in an intense grappling match is the sakuraba/newton match. i have said on here many many times that it is the pinnacle of grappling in mma.

Noone is questioning that he wins. Its that his fights are BORING to watch and each fight of his is the same just different fighter. Guys like Aldo, Silva, and Jones are always exciting to watch even though they are just as dominate.

I'm questioning the poster who commented that Diaz's BJJ was the only thing that kept him in the fight last night.

Bottom line is, GSP's opponents know exactly what he's going to do. They have months to train and prepare for his takedowns. Then, the fight takes place and GSP still dominates. Until someone can prevent GSP from doing what he does, then I don't blame him one bit. He's doing what works. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Which fight won fight of the night? For me, it was the last (or maybe second to last) prelim on FX. The one where Voeckler got robbed by the judges IMO. That was a tremendous fight!

it was, b/c it kept GSP from taking unneeded risk, Diaz every time he had GSP in his guard was going for an arm and not just using his guard to slow GSP down.

LMAO! GSP making Diaz's arse quit the entire sport.

I think he says this after every loss

Looks like he might not be able to afford to quit after the feds get a hold of his arse

quote:

"I can't be jumping teams," Diaz told MMAjunkie.com. "I just have to do the best with what I have. You know what? I've never paid taxes in my life, no joke.

quote:

But the taxes thing? That one may have been a little hard for even White to see coming.

"What's sad is, he better go pay his taxes," White said. "He came out publicly tonight and said he's never paid taxes in his life? Holy s---. That's sad. You wanna talk about sad? That's sad. Somebody better handle that with this check and make sure that kid doesn't end up with nothing. There's a guy who's Nate and Nick's lawyer and seems like a decent guy looking out for them. I'll probably give this guy a call and tell him, 'Nick said he's never paid taxes in his life, and you probably want to start working on that f---ing Sunday morning, not Monday morning.'"

After UFC 158 loss, Nick Diaz says hasn't paid taxes, might 'just be a kid'

GSP is extremely disciplined and mentaly tough. Has been for many many years. He is going to continue to do what he does and he is not going to lose, period. Until or unless he takes on a larger opponent at a catch weight (Silva if it happens). His skill set, gameplan, and discipline is just too good to lose to someone the same size as him.

I am really excited about GSP Hendricks. Lately GSP just bullies people with his wrestling, but Hendricks is probably one of the best wrestlers to ever step into the octagon. He also has crazy power. it should be a great fight.

i think this shows more of a flaw in UFC scoring than a flaw in GSP's fighting

he's just acting within the incentives given by the rules. if this is the result, then the rules need to be changed

I just wish there was some repercussions for stalling. Looking back at the Pride rules, they were quite good. Although, I don't like soccer kicks. Well I do like them, but don't think they should be allowed.
