I understand what ULL is trying to market ,I am just saying it doesn’t exist and won’t work . Those schools are actually called that name by the way . They just don’t call their athletic team a different name than the school. I am done arguing I really don’t care what y’all think I am sure the state legislature will change your name in a couple years anyway.

The State University of New York at Buffalo is Buffalo
Texas-Austin is Texas
North Carolina-Chapel Hill is North Carolina
Nevada-Reno is Nevada
Louisiana-Lafayette is Louisiana.....
Should I go on?
Again......marketing. If it didn’t exist or work, the national media outlets wouldn’t be calling us by that name. But they are, and your confirmation bias and sourness won’t change that.

Of all the chronic LSU fan melts, this one is by far the most bizarre.

“Louisiana” is good marketing. Like it or not. It’s working.
“Ragin’ Cajuns” is the stupid part. A little bit of trying too hard/trying to be cute. Cringeworthy. Just call yourself the Cajuns and be done with it.

If I call myself King JabarkusRussell does that make it so?

OMG, so triggered.
I don't care about this issue at all or if it's "legal" or not. But I have some comments about branding. For years after ULL and ULM rebranded themselves as "Louisiana" and "ULM", ESPN still referred to them as "Louisiana-Lafayette" and Louisiana-Monroe". I thought it odd that they didn't demand that ESPN switch to their desired branding. I just checked again, and I'm surprised to see that they got it half "right":
I'm surprised because ULM has done a great job of consistently branding themselves as ULM on their web site and uniforms, but ESPN still doesn't have it right. ULL has not done as good a job at branding as ULM, but having ESPN on their side now I'm sure helps a lot.
For an example of a very successful re-branding, I completely forgot that Nevada used to be Nevada-Reno until 2012 when Nevada came to play Cal, Jeff Tedford kept referring to them as "Reno". Long before his current stint at FSU, Tedford played and coached at FSU, so UNR has always been "Reno" to him, but no one calls them Reno or Nevada-Reno anymore.
For an example of a failed attempt at rebranding, I remember back when Jim Leavitt was still the coach at USF, a reporter referred to them as "South Florida" and Leavitt asked that they be called "USF". That was the first I knew that they were trying to rebrand themselves. But they've done a terrible job. If you look at their athletic site, they don't even put their team name at the top, and you see a football uniform with "South Florida" on it, but scroll down and you'll see other uniforms that say "USF" on it. Then you scroll down to the very bottom and you see a "USF" using the bull-horns logo. That logo should be at the top of the page. So bizarre.

The nickname has been around since the late-1960s/ early 70s. Most of us just say Cajuns. It would be the same as the LSU “Fighting” Tigers when most fans just say Tigers.

This whole thing just makes LSU fans seem so petty. Ohio State isn't threatened by Ohio, UC-Los Angeles doesn't care that UC-Berkeley gets to brand itself as "Cal".

Tulane needs to put a big and bold LOUISIANA on the front of their jerseys for the Bowl because they're the only College in Louisiana to ever be officially called the "University of Louisiana." That would be awesome for the game...……...

Except that we graduated an entire graduating class as University of Louisiana.
Posted on 12/3/18 at 6:55 am to semjase
ULL should be named Southwest Louisiana Junior College at Lafayette"...….

I think this thread needs to be bumped. Someone, somewhere, MUST do something about this. It is imperative.

If any fanbase deserves a melt over this it is ULM but that school has either no spine and just willingly concedes the University of Louisiana name over or they feel ULM is their brand and they give zero fricks what ULL does. Honestly, I don't think anybody in Monroe cares. They are more worried about LSU and what Bama is doing.

I need to know.
Did you graduate from LSU or another La university? Are you from the Lafayette area? Like seriously why does UL bother you so bad? I’m a die hard LSU fan and they get my full support. UL academics and athletics do not effect that what so ever. You should be glad Louisiana has other good schools than just LSU. It’s so fricking stupid that people think like you.
Compare another state similar in size to La. do you think people that went to Auburn or UA shite on Troy and South Alabama? The answer would be no. Normal fricking people are proud of their state and are happy when other schools have success. People like y’all give LSU fans a bad rep. Yes LSU fans have a very bad rep.

Maybe that’s why higher ed in this state is close to dead last in the nation. If “fans” would put this much effort into saving LSU’s financial struggles, we would be in a better place. But the problem is that people here don’t care about important things like I don’t know......quality of education and academic prestige. They give their money to causes that fund billboards in other states about a football player.

I agree. A lot of the people who spend a lot of money to see LSU sports succeed, don’t give a shite about the actual university. Think plant operators, off shore guys, oil field, etc. those types never went to college let alone LSU. Therefore they just want to see LSU beat bama and don’t care about anything related to the university. I legit believe a lot of those types forget that LSU is even a SCHOOL. Lmao

Who gives a shite? Outside of the state of Louisiana, no one thinks highly of any of your colleges other than Tulane.
