A 162 game season with a 3 game series in the first round is laughable
And I held this belief way before the astros got bounced so don’t come at me with that BS
Perhaps those teams should have played better?

Baseball shouldn’t even have playoffs. Do an 180 game season. Everybody plays everybody the same amount. Best record wins the championship. If there’s a tie, they play a 7 game series.

That would lead to about half of all baseball fans being completely tuned out by the all star break.

When did MLB ever have 4 divisions?
1969-1994?

I’d love for them to go back to 4 divisions, those winners play each other in a best of 7 and then best of 7 WS. But that will never happen obviously. It’s a matter of time until they expand it to 8 in each league getting in, likely when they expand to 32 teams in a few years. Sports have gotten pretty gay

But TV money rules all
You said it all, brother. From a competitive standpoint, it's nonsensical how big the playoffs are in all of the pro leagues, even the NFL.
Also, the next time anyone is bitching about rest days or load management, this is why. The players aren't dumb. They know many of these games legit don't matter.
The Guardians beat the Tigers by 6.5 games over the course of 162. Doesn't matter. All that matters is the next 5 games.
But hey, tournaments are good entertainment and make a shite load of money.

I like the urgency at the beginning of the playoffs with 3 games.

They should have never changed it from the 3 division winners and one wild card besides making the divisional series 7 games. Baseball is too flukey of a sport for this current setup. Division winners keep losing to mediocre wild card teams and we end up with trash World Series matchups like the rangers and arizona.

The MLB needed to celebrate the regular season win leader more. Take notes from European soccer
It’s too late for it now that they expanded the playoffs

I disagree. Don't be the third best division winner if you don't want to play a wc series.

I'm with extending the playoffs if we can go colonize another island to raise their sons to be pitchers. Otherwise, it's kind of stretched as it is right now.

Which is the whole reason MLB plays 162 games.
It does suck that teams play these long, drawn out seasons and then the team that gets hot at the right time wins it.

It took you a full paragraph to explain how it works. Take NHL or NBA for example, 7 game series in a repeating home/away format until there's a champion.
In the MLB you start with a 3 game series, then you go to a 5 game series, then you go to a 7 game series for the last two matchups. Also they do home field different from everyone else with the 2-3-2 format.
The NBA has for absurd reasons other than money added a "playoff" to get to the "playoffs". The format of which is utterly ridiculous. It's the only major US sport where there is a "losers bracket" game. It would take three paragraphs just to explain the play-in tournament.
I guess there is uniformity in ever series being a 7 game series, but it also drags the early rounds out WAY too long. I appreciate MLBs stair step approach. The best teams earn a bye and the benefit of having to be beaten 3 times. Then, a team has to win 4 games to reach the WS. It's more challenging as it goes along.

Why does it not?
Because it used to be 2

That would be stupidly unfair to teams with the first round bye. Hitters would be incredibly rusty being off for a week and a half. Hell, a lot of them struggle after being off for five days as we've seen with Division Series results over the past couple years.

You nailed it - more than a week off would be terrible for the top seeds’ hitters.

I would like to see 3 division winners and 2 WCs from each league.
The wc teams play a best of 3 on mon, Tues, and if necessary wed beginning immediately after season ends on Sunday.
Winner of wc series in each league plays the 1 seed in divisional round beginning Friday. The 2 and 3 seeds (division winners) play each other in divisional round beginning Thurdsay.
That way no team is off more than 4 days, division winners each get byes, and wc teams battle each other to get to divisional round.
