I just don’t see what’s so hard about the players being under contract.

Students on scholarships or work/study agreements have to meet certain requirements to keep receiving “aid” (compensation) from universities, just put the players under contract and 90% of this bullshite ends

this kid, who has shown to be an average qb, can GFH. You want to be paid, you can also face criticism.

Why does congress need to get involved?

Just make these contracts stipulate its a 3-4 year deal with no renegotiations. If you transfer you pay everything back like a buyout.

And make them slaves?

That is what the main stream media argument will be and congress will cater to it

Based on the ruling “you can’t prohibit NIL opportunities” I don’t see how you can tie them down with contracts. That would be preventing them from pursuing other NIL opportunities

That’s why that ruling was massive. You told the NCAA, a private organization, you aren’t allowed to govern your own members.

There are plenty of athletes with endorsement deals with contracts stipulating they cant do certain other deals

I know you don't honestly believe contracts = slavery.

For reference, if he gets $4MM per year somewhere, that would be in line with the 16th pick in last years draft.

That's insane.

No real motivation for the players to sign it long term. Coaches and collectives don’t have much leverage because there are only so many 5 stars.

Even if there was some good ole boy agreement not to poach players, it wouldn’t last 2 seconds

Word is that Nico came sniffing around Oregon to get a deal he could use against IT and Dan Lanning immediately contacted Heupel to let him know and now the thing broke open

Contracts with buyouts would solve 99% of this transfer bullshite, however I believe because they are still receiving athletic scholarships the contracts, scholarships, and compensations between men and women athletes would have to be the same according to Title IX if it’s from the school.

But you’re right, enforceable contracts with buyouts are what college sports needs

Nico played the NFL hand. He might not be elite, but him or likely his agent looked around the SEC and thought due to his high school ranking and NFL draft prospect that he might just be the highest profile QB in the biggest league. He made a gamble and lost.

I don't see anywhere paying him $4mil.

I’m almost certain that’s not the case. Schools can distribute their revenue share however they see fit.

It only works if everyone does it, and if everyone does it the easy argument would be collusion.

Would restore some faith in humanity if true

There’s no landing spots for him where he’s getting a premium this late in the offseason. The only P4 programs that will have any interest in him will be those with an unconvincing inexperienced senior taking over
