No way IMO. I seriously doubt anyone actually hit the ball further than McGwire, Canseco, Bonds, etc. at the height of the steroid era.

He somehow hit a baseball 575 feet but when we have finally been given the tools to measure stuff like this, we have never estimated anything over 505.

Its not impossible I guess, but I ain't buying it

Considering the fact that none of the roided up players playing with juiced balls could come within 35 feet of that mark, I would venture to say it’s false.

I just watched Ken Burns series again.

The doc insinuates that Mantle would have hit the longest homer ever (or Josh Gibson) - they claim Mantle came within a foot of hitting it out of Yankee Stadium and given the height would've traveled further than any ball.

But it hit the top the building and fell back down.

The other claim is that Mantle did hit a 565 foot homer knocking it out of Griffith Stadium.

I’ve heard about the Mantle shots. I don’t think anybody disputed the one in Griffith Stadium.

Ted Williams hit one that landed on a passing train. Ended up traveling over 1000 miles.

Unless every single sports writer was just blatantly lying, Ruth did hit 460-490+ foot homeruns with regularity. I don't really see how that's disputable

It isn't. There are just a lot of younger fans who think it impossible for Ruth to have done some of the things he did given his body type. There's a reason why the man was considered the messiah of baseball for so many years. Most baseball historians still consider him the GOAT.

There truly hasn't been a ball player like him before or since.

Mantle would be a Top 3 choice if someone asked who hit the longest homerun.

Dude was just fricking country strong and swung with such a force...

He admitted in the Ken Burn's doc that he tried to hit it out of the park on every swing. He was not hitting anyone over or bunting. Dude wanted to destroy the ball on every pitch.

His swing, his whole body would coil and then explode twisting down to his knees like he was going to topple over.
