We haven’t played tech in 25 years and we’re 20 minutes away from each other. At minimum the first game would be a sellout.

They better schedule it when LSU is on a bye or playing furman because many LA Tech and ULM fans are also LSU fans.

Every charter member of SBC football, with UL & ULM being the exceptions, would vote no. That’s Ark St, Troy and USA. USM is a 50/50 vote.

In the SBC East only Marshall would be in favor of LaTech. The rest of the east would be a no. The east will push for WKU.

If it were fanbases and/or AD's making the decision? Sure. It's not. It is presidents of the universities. I'm saying that this news is out because LTU would have the votes if TX St leaves and ECU says No thanks. The only 100% No's are the two in Alabama, and that is not a LTU thing, but a safeguard to protect travel costs if/when there is anymore expansion to keep those schools in the Western half of the conference.

Smaller conferences need geographic rivalries and their own playoff system

Am I wrong? You’d be naive to say a large % of LTU & ULM fans would avoid attending a game between those two if it conflicts with a big LSU game.

Just stating reality here. Very few fans of their Alma maters such as these two across the state are exclusively fans to that one team. LSU is and always will be what people love. It’s ok to love the state flagship and still love your Alma mater as well. Don’t make people choose.

Liberty has financial backers to be the best choice. And they are improving their major sports

Man, a G5 playoff would be great. Play the championship game somewhere like Nola/houston/atlanta.

You could still have the top ranked G5 get their slot in the CFP then allow the rest to play for their own championship. However that one G5 who made it (Boise in this case) would still try to claim that they’re the champion despite not participating in the G5 playoff.

I can't find myself giving a crap about Tech football again until we get a G5 playoff system.

Even then I’m not sure I can start giving a crap again. Dude balls out as a freshman or sophomore, then he’s gone the next season to a P4, and doesn’t even have to sit out a season. Coaches at G5s can’t build programs anymore.

it would be fun but would be an excuse for the SEC/big 10 to box out the g-5 in the playoffs more than they already are

Then it absolutely should be done & true separation should happen soon.

I got slightly bummed when I heard Vincent is selling kids on just coming to ULM for a year then transferring to a bigger program. I get why and I know he pretty much has to but man it sucks that’s what it’s come to

What the hell would ECU step down from AAC to the Belch? Lol

Reason #3,249,874 for why Ruston thinks they're too good for the Belt!

LA Tech vs UL - Louisiana on a Thursday night not move the needle nationally but the folks who prefer CFB would watch this over the nfl Thursday game. North LA vs South LA. The two biggest fan bases in Louisiana aside from LSU. It would be nice. LTU has decent representation across the state as does ULL. Lot better history within each program than ULM also.

You must not know ULM/Tech history very well. You also have had nothing but hate for ULM on this board. Are you a little doggie in disguise?

im one of those types. Competed for ULM but grew up in south La as an LSU fan. You bet your arse I’m watching ULM Tech over whatever LSU game is on that week and that’s a rare occurrence.

Did I ever say that princess ? No The SBC is clearly in a better position now than CUSA. I simply asked a question that no one has answered. Why would ECU jump to a perceived lower conference than AAC.

Conference USA was never the top mid-major, but it was considered to be a halfway respectable mid major conference. 15 or 20 years ago, Conference USA was considered to be worse than the MWC (which was almost approaching power conference status), but C-USA was considered to be better than the MAC and probably even the WAC. And C-USA was considered to be miles above the Sun Belt, which was considered to be a barely glorified FCS conference.

Nobody could have imagined in the oughts that the Sun Belt would become the best mid major (except for mayyybe the AAC) while C-USA would descend to the status that the Sun Belt used to have as being a barely glorified FCS conference.
