Stewart Mandel can't read the room.
All year long Playoff Committee selections ain't gonna look like the Final one....they will flip and flop after being whispered in their ear by the powers that be who control them....just ask FSU.

Bama lost to mediocre Oklahoma AND mediocre Vandy (lost to Georgia State!!!!) AND lost an additional game on top of that.
Ole Miss lost to awful UK (who got their doors blown off by ACC Louisville… who ND beat!) AND lost to mediocre Florida (who got their doors blown off AT HOME to an okay, not great ACC Miami team) AND lost an ADDITIONAL game!
But SEC… it just means more!!!

Clemson still getting in is insane. They and ND will never miss playoffs

Agreed. With 2 losses, you can compare and bitch about schedules. Too many SEC teams lost 3. I don't like the committee giving a team a 4th chance.
Posted on 12/1/24 at 3:22 am to Norway
Miami should be behind SCAR, Bama and OM. 10-2 and ZERO GAMES against top-25 teams. SCAR played five of them. Bama played four. OM played two but beat both.
SMU played one top-25 team and lost. If they lose the ACCCG then they’re going to be 0-2 vs top-25 teams and 11-0 vs trash.
Complete lunacy that either of those teams are considered to be contending for an at-large spot.
Also it’s stupid that Penn State is “in the field” while Indiana is “on the bubble.” Both teams beat up on scrubs and lost their only game against a team with a pulse.
B1G/SEC playoff can’t come soon enough.

I'm wide awake and bored.
As usual the mission and the selection criteria are at odds with one another. These people are idiots.
From the CFP website:
MISSION
The committee’s task will be to select the best teams, rank the teams for inclusion in the playoff and then assign the teams to the playoff bracket and their game sites.
PRINCIPLES
The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
Strength of schedule,
Head-to-head competition,
Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS RANKINGS
If fewer than five conference champions are among the top 25 on Selection Day, then the committee will rank the remaining conference champions. The highest ranked of those teams will be added to the playoff until five conference champions are included in the playoff. A conference champion(s) from outside the top 12 will be placed at the bottom of the 12-team seeding in rank order.
this should not matter if the task is to select the best teams
PAIRINGS
The four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded 1, 2, 3 and 4 and will receive byes in the first round. The remaining eight teams, including the fifth conference champion, will be seeded 5 through 12 based on their final ranking. If the fifth conference champion is not ranked among the top 12 teams, it will be seeded at No. 12.
Teams seeded 5, 6, 7 and 8 will host first-round games against teams seeded 12, 11, 10 and 9, respectively.
In the Playoff Quarterfinals, the team seeded No. 1 will meet the winner of the game between seeds 8 and 9. No. 2 will meet the 7 vs. 10 winner; No. 3 will meet the 6 vs. 11 winner; No. 4 will meet the 5 vs. 12 winner.
In the Playoff Semifinals, the winner of the game between No. 1 vs. 8/9 will meet the winner of No. 4 vs. 5/12. The winner of the game between No. 2 vs. 7/10 will meet the winner of No. 3 vs. 6/11.
Traditional contract-bowl relationships will be the top priority when the committee assigns teams to Playoff Quarterfinal sites, but such priority cannot be guaranteed because of the bracket. For example, if the Big 12 Conference champion were ranked No. 1 and the Southeastern Conference champion were ranked No. 2, then the Big 12 champion would be assigned to the Sugar Bowl.
The committee will use geographic proximity for the No. 1 seed when assigning the Playoff Semifinal sites.
South Carolina is on a streak and just finished the season beating #12 Clemson, I see them jumping in the rankings.
My guess for conf champs:
Texas
Oregon
Clemson
Boise St
Az St - will end up seeded 10th
5-8
Penn St
Notre Dame
Tennessee
Ohio St
9-12
Georgia (I predict they lose to Texas in a close game)
Az St
Bama
South Carolina
First round would be:
South Carolina at Penn St - Franklin chokes
Bama at Notre Dame - Notre Dame posers again
Az St at Vols - Vols are better but not by much
Georgia at Ohio St - cold weather and Beck dooms the Dawgs
Second round:
Ohio St v Oregon
Vols v Texas
Bama v Clemson
South Carolina v Boise St
Semi finals:
Oregon v South Carolina
Bama v Texas
Championship game
Oregon v Texas
Winner, Texas
South Carolina is your Cinderella story then gets routed by Oregon.

Yeah. Ole Miss scheduled cream puffs and then was soft for SEC play

So if the only thing that matters is number of losses, why would anyone schedule a game they could lose?
You don’t get credit for losing to a bad team ever

If bamas three losses weee UGA, Texas, and Ole Miss it would be a lot different

it's just hard to pick between the 3 loss SEC teams. how can you bring Bama over Ole Miss? they both beat Georgia. Bama has 2 shitty losses to Vandy and Oklahoma. Ole Miss loss @ LSU and to Kentucky at home.
South Carolina lost to Bama and Ole Miss so hard to bring them over the other 2.
Best way to do it is to say 3 SEC losses isn't good enough, it sucks if you had a tough schedule but Kentucky, Vandy, and Oklahoma are teams you s should have beat. 3 losses would be no argument in the past, but I know they will still feel "robbed" for not having a chance at the natty title with 3 losses somehow.

Personally I think these schools are locks:
Georgia
Indiana
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Oregon
Penn State
SMU
Tennessee
Texas
Obviously you’ll have the Big 12 champ and the fifth auto bid will almost assuredly go to the MWC champ (Boise or UNLV).
I, and of course many and the committee will disagree, don’t believe anyone not playing in a conference championship game should jump anyone who loses a conference championship game. So, by that metric, ACC fixes their championship game for Clemson to get the auto-berth.

Already making weather excuses ?

SEC Fans: Ohio State sucks and would lose 8 games a year in the SEC.
Also SEC Fans: SEC Playoff team is going to lose to Ohio State, because weather

The Bills do not get extra credit for beating the Chiefs. Their win against Kansas City has the same effect on their record as a win against the Jets does. They also would not get extra credit if they had lost to the Chiefs.
Why should it be different in college?
