Steve Smith rips Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy after he calls him the N word during TNF

Smith, a five-time Pro Bowl selection during his playing career, claimed that he and Jeudy had a pregame confrontation that stemmed from a comment the retired wide receiver made about the Broncos player on his podcast.

“On my podcast I talked about guys that maybe have not showed up in a way,” Smith said on NFL Network before the Broncos and Chiefs kicked off Thursday night. “The word that I’ve used to describe him in the past was a J.A.G. — just a guy. When I saw him, he’s playing well. I wanted to say to him face to face, ‘hey, I know I’ve said some things in the past. I probably shouldn’t have and I’m sorry.’ That’s what I wanted to say to him. His response was, ‘(racial slur), I don’t mess with you.’ And it was a curse word. So I was like, ‘all right.’ And then he repeated it.” Smith went on to deliver some not-so-subtle jabs.

“I’m sorry that I said you were a J.A.G., just a guy. Who’s an average wide receiver who they used a first-round pick on that isn’t doing anything," Smith said. "I hope today that you actually show up in a way that you haven’t showed up in the last couple years since they drafted you. So if you ever have a problem with Agent 89, I’m sorry, for saying that you’re an average wide receiver that they will eventually move on (from). When Teams call me and ask if they should trade for Jerry Jeudy, I will say "No". Don't trade for Jerry Jeudy, because he is mentally unable to handle criticism, from people who watch specifically to say "can he be a WR?" He can be a WR, he's a Tier 3.”

If Jeudy had half of the dawg that Steve Smith has, he’s an all pro receiver

If there’s somebody that knows ball, it’s Steve Smith.

Jeudy was HORRIBLE last night. He was loafing on most plays and didn't even try on a ball that should have been a TD in what was actually a close game late.

Even with Russell Wilson as his QB?

Russell had 2 picks last night but they were both on tipped balls at the LOS (Drew Brees special). He kept driving Denver into KC territory and putting nice throws up there. Jeudy whiffed on at least 3 50/50 balls that a good WR would have caught.

It’s wild to see.

In Tuscaloosa Jeudy was by all accounts locked in and spent an incredible amount of time and focus learning how to run tight routes and maximize his talent which I thought had a lower ceiling than guys like Waddle, Ruggs etc because he wasn’t violently athletic like they were.

I’m not sure if it’s catching his first big paycheck but he’s not the same guy he was at Bama and I agree he has a hard lesson coming because he is completely unimpressive so far in Denver.

I wonder if he needs a Saban style disciplinarian to keep him motivated and that’s not how it works in the NFL.

I'm not trolling and this is a seroius question...would teams call Steve Smith for his advice on trades? Is he invovled with the league still in any real capacity?

Russ drove into KC territory 3 times. Out of 10 possessions. That’s 30%! I wouldn’t say “he kept driving into KC territory”

I think that was just more of a hypothetical. Maybe the Panthers might call in for an opinion if they're looking at a WR but that's probably it

It’s wild because to me it’s been the exact same experience with OBJ. He seemed like a stellar teammate at LSU, had a nice couple of NFL seasons and then just completely went off the deep end.

Steve Smith was a complete assbag when he played. It’s kinda funny to see people take his side

He punched far above his weight class but going around dropping n-bombs on players is probably not the right way of going around telling people to shape up.

They are both black. And not even what Smith was crying about
