It is my understanding they would join ACC in football and basketball only. The Olympic sports would find a new home.
The idea of Stanford and Cal coming in just football and basketball does make much more sense.
The WCC would seem to be a great fit for many of the other sports.

Completely false. If the ACC could add Notre Dame and another solid team, maybe Stanford, then ESPN would absolutely redo their deal.
Why? Out of the goodness of their hearts?

SEC has told ESPN they would go to a 9 game conference schedule if they can get 2 more schools added at a full share. This would add a TON of SEC inventory.

LOL this make absolutely zero sense. Then again, nothing ever does in conference realignment

At this point, they just don’t want to be without a chair when the music stops.
Losing money to play football and basketball cross country is less bad for them than being an independent and hemorrhaging money there plus all their non-revenue sports.

cal really needs this. they are screwed financially otherwise.
How is Cal going to play in the ACC?
They are banned from using state funds to travel to the following states:
Florida- Miami & Fla State
Georgia- Tech
South Carolina- Clemson
Kentucky- Louisville
North Carolina- UNC, Duke, NC State, & Wake
Indiana- Notre Dame

The only way this makes sense is if Stanford finds a new campus on the Eastern side of the country.

To get Notre Dame.
This isn't some hot take. The ACC has known this for years.
Notre Dame's TV deal with NBC expires in 2025. They are expecting a $70 million plus deal to rival the Big 10.
Who knows what the economics of sports media will look like at that time?
I don't think the ACC can get them to that big of a number, even with a reworked contract. They will probably stay independent or have to join the Big 10 if their media offer isn't big enough.

i said it other thread, acc and pac12, need to merge, add a few schools for west divsion, have it split by area. NE, South, West, etc.
only way both stay in hunt for p5 status

B1G allegedly going to 10 conference games in 2024. Not sure if there is an escalator in the TV deals for that.

Not sure how feasible, but it's about the only card any of them have to play.
If the ACC added the 4 remaining Pac 12 schools, and then added some combination of SMU, UNLV, Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State, they could have a western division.
Certainly not ideal, but here we are.

If I'm them, I'm using my leverage to get a sweetheart deal from someone and just stay independent until then.
Instead they are in desperation mode cause they were passed on. Geographically not desirable. The tv ratings they bring sucks. They don’t have many options.

eventually, those with out a seat plus midmajors will sue the big3 for having a monopoly, and it could get very interesting, especially during discovery. They get to see EVERYTHING during this process.
the discovery on the big schools would be a godsend for any law suit.
but they could sit back and hope they some how fit in and get a smaller seat.
could be afraid to bite the big dog

The SEC should be going to 9 games right now anyways.
Then 10 if they add more teams.
Time to cut out the poors
