Stanford and Cal gonna eliminate some sports? ACC doesn’t field teams in as many sports as they support

We’ll stay regional in some sports like water polo.

A joke of a conference that WVU would suck a dick to get into.

The ACC is going to try to become a strong academic conference like the Ivy league.

I still wonder if FSU and Clemson are gonna claim that adding teams voids the last GoR deal and try to bolt to SEC

Not really. It is just TV payouts they won't get. They still get the bowl cut and increased gates from the ACC. They will actually make more than the AAC total payout.

This is correct.

One thing of note is that now that you have teams like Stanford and Cal coming east to play ACC teams, they will instantly have more viewers, and are likely to generate more west coast viewers. If you're living in Palo Alto as a casual sports fan, you probably weren't watching Stanford and Oregon, but you will probably watch Stanford and Florida State at 3PM Pacific.

[Tim Thomas] Absolutely stunned they did this. And FYI, athletics at Virginia Tech didn't want this from what I heard. This was a presidential decision from Tim Sands focused largely on trying to get into the AAU by trying to curry favor with 2 of the founding members, Stanford and Cal.

I wonder how many other University Presidents pushed this through over the advice of their AD

The UC Board of Regents have imposed a “Berkeley tax” of $10 million a year on UCLA for leaving the PAC-12. This money will help offset the additional travel expenses that Cal will incur playing in the ACC.

SMU makes sense. Easier to get to Dallas from Boston than Boston the Tallahassee, etc. Cal/Stanford is insane.

where are fsu and clemson going too? sec?
Yes.

The bloc of SEC East schools that were against adding their in-state rivals for so many years doesn't have the voting power to stop it anymore with the SEC going to 16 teams now. GOR is probably the only thing stopping (delaying) FSU and CLemson from getting SEC invites.

SMU’s donors paying for it.

Between the tuition rate and their donors SMU should have the best facilities and players in the country and I’m not really exaggerating. There’s a reason the football program is so infamous. The program and administration had a ‘come to Jesus’ after the penalty but all that money never went away.

what industries are the wealthy SMU alumni in? any famous ones you know? i've heard about the alleged deep pockets of their alumni base, but i don't know anymore details than that

I've heard donors guaranteed them 200MM to get into the ACC as well.
