I was betting a lot of pucks last year and it made me crazy. I got sucked in by under 6.5 so many times.

To what tzimme is saying, betting golf majors is a lot of fun. Sprinkle $5 or $10 around on guys and if you get a couple on the leaderboard over the weekend that can yield a few hundred or thousand, it's a lot of fun.

The thing I hate about the widespread legalization thats going on is how it's morphed sports talk radio into sports betting talk. It's just like fantasy football, I don't give a shite about your team. Just give me the news and rumors, if I want to look at the lines I can check my phone.

I emptied out my Draftkings account when the Dodgers went up 2-0 on the Braves in Game 2 knowing if the Braves won we would be up 2-0. Lost the bet and never looked back

If you bet too little then it’s meaningless and you might as well just pick winners in your head for fun. If you bet enough to actually care about losing the money then you’re just stressing yourself out over a bunch of dumbasses in tights running at each other.

I prefer betting with friends/coworkers, because I get more out of taking their money or getting a free bottle of liquor from them.

I do bet weekly (football season) on MGM app though, because like others have said, games a more interesting when your funds are on the line. I'm not a big online/casino bettor in other sports, but do partake from time to time.

I usually only bet like a dollar or two per bet. It’s more of a pride thing to say I was right with how I did and I get a direct reward for it.

You just need my “parlay system.”

You can make bank on a 10 team parlay.

It’s not hard. It’s like stealing money.

From your future.
Most people lose.
A series of 3 team parlays will cure you of thinking you’ve got a system.

Huh? How is horse betting different that “sports” betting?

I've already doubled my bankroll this year betting on nfl. I don't get greedy, I just make smart picks and grind it out. I turn a profit most years. It's entertainment and that's all.

I haven't done it in ages but watching folks in crowded sports books was often more entertaining than the games. Definitely a fascinating people watching experience.

How is it "rigged" there are two sides to every bet. You can bet on either side, so if it's rigged it's rigged in someone's favor

Definitely an entertainment value to it for sure, it can become a fun hobby. Adds interest in games that one normally wouldn’t be watching, so you can get a couple hours of entertainment, even with a loss.

Most amateur sports gamblers don’t realize, however, that you can’t win any consistent/significant money betting ATS spread tho. Even the “best” can only win at a 50-55% clip. (And I say “best” in a cynical way, as there is no such thing as a “best” coin-flip caller). So it’s a mathematical/statistical uphill battle that one really can’t overcome without consistent inside information.

Nonetheless, as long as one is doing it for the entertainment value, it absolutely can be that. I sometimes get a laugh out of the “serious” amateur guys that are clearing doing it for the potential money (as opposed to doing it for mere enjoyment/hobby) and bet ATS, and just have to shake my head.

All that said, one can make a little money sports betting…you just have to be patient, and conservative. But the 50/50 bets aren’t where you can do that, and unfortunately that’s where most people migrate to… the 50-50 bets. (people also migrate to the crazy parlays that payout 3-10x your wager, which are way worse than a single 50/50 bet, and is definitely not the way to win consistent money)

It's the lunatics that bet $2-20 on 30 games a weekend.

I used to do that

Now it's just one a weekend for a large sum

I went like 10-2 the other year

Lol, yeah that’s a lot of work and stress for very little (or usually negative in the longrun) return. But to each their own I guess, as long as they get some enjoyment out of it.

I enjoy sports betting… a lot…but I’m also well aware and go in knowing that the math is simply not on your side in the longrun
