Neither he nor the op are fans.

No offense to you, but 99% of my interactions with avid soccer fans (both online and in person) have reflect what he and the OP stated.

How many soccer fans do you interact with?

The whole hipster meme is just so overplayed. I mean, look at some NBA fans. (And I say this as a huge Pels fan)

Stopped reading right there.

I haven't insulted you, yet you feel the need to insult me. No point in continuing this. The OP complains about soccer douches (and there are some, no doubt), but you are acting eerily similar to what he was complaining about.

I really don't understand why you feel the need to get touchy with someone who doesn't agree with everything you say.

Baseball is probably the real hipster sport. All the ones I know love them some baseball.

I do too...but still.

Agreed. Every sport is going to have bandwagon/hipster fans.

How is that an insult?

You clearly missed the point I was making AKA it went over your head.

An insult is if I called you a moron or idiot. Not saying my point when over your head which it clearly did.

Go back read what I said and then read your response again. I NEVER compared the two like you accused me of.

get touchy

Dude, be careful of accusing someone of the same behaviour you are currently exhibiting.

You were using the Olympics ratings to disprove me using World Cup ratings v. NCAA Tourney ratings.

How is that not comparing?

Quite frankly, I'm done. You've changed your argument so many times in this thread, I really am not sure what the argument is anymore. You think soccer is irrelevant, fine.

Difference of opinions.

The whole reason I came to this thread was not to defend soccer v. WNBA or NCAA bball, rather it was because the OP was just the latest example of someone going out of their way to hate on soccer which is something that has never made sense to me.

Maybe it's because they feel insecure about the sport gaining ground in this country, I don't know. For the record, I don't think soccer will ever surpass the popularity of baseball, football and basketball – and that's ok. This country has enough people in it where many sports can survive and thrive without another getting cannibalized.

World Cup is over and soccer may be irrelevant to some, doesn't mean it is irrelevant to America as a whole, because it is growing at a healthy rate.

It isn't comparing in the context I used it.

I am using it as an example as to why you using the World Cup ratings to compare to March Madness is silly and irrelevant. Worldwide every 4 year events are going to draw a larger audience than any average game or tourney which is why to truly compare Apples to Apples the Premier League ratings are the better indicator.

I truly don't see how I can make it much more clear.

Not really. My argument has always been that Soccer is pretty much irrelevant in the USA and that's all I've argued. The argument has simply evolved into the many reasons why it is. I haven't changed my argument at all.

It's very VERY low on the totem poll though.

I agree it will grow too.

If it was truly irrelevant, there wouldn't be 9 figure tv contracts to televise games from 6:30am for leagues overseas and record breaking world cup ratings. Like I said, it's not nor will it ever likely be on the baseball, basketball and football level. But to say it is irrelevant is just not right.

NBC has actually said they don't see that contract has even being break even at this point. It was a gamble by a dying network. Still not a great indicator.

NBC isn't the only one I was referring to. Fox shelled out money for the German league and ESPN just signed a 90 million per year deal with the MLS.

I just know in my personal experiences that new people to the NBA/NFL who watch only the major events aren't nearly as crucified as people who don't watch Soccer but will watch the major events.

My post wasn't meant to be offensive. Just a comment on my personal experiences among the different fans of some of the major sports.

You cherry pick comparisons. You are not proving anything.

There really is nothing to discuss if you think soccer is irrelevant in this country. If you followed the sport a little longer than the past week or so you would be aware of this fact.

I won't read or respond to any other posts by you in this thread because there is no point.
