Perhaps it’s a geographical thing?
From 2006 until 2023, every national champion (minus Ohio State in 2014) was in a 500+ mile radius in the Deep South. That wasn’t a coincidence.

Nope. Just Bama. Every other SEC school played by the rules, especially LSU.

No, it’s more so the transfer portal on top of NIL equalizing the playing fields

Proximity to more talent, better coaches and more investment in facilities. Those three things were the keys. Was there pay? Absolutely, but it was everywhere and the three keys all tilted talent to the South. It is hard to imagine any kid choosing the frozen North over the Southern climate closer to home with any financial incentive being roughly equal.
Now the bags up North are a lot heavier. The Bryce Underwood situation is a really clear example. It took a blockbuster offer, but UM was willing to fork out the money because they have a donor who could bankroll.

A Louisiana man who pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $500,000 from a hospital foundation and giving some of the stolen money to the parents of two former LSU football players was sentenced to federal prison Thursday.
U.S. District Court Judge John W. deGravelles sentenced John Paul Funes, the former president and CEO of Our Lady of the Lake (OLOL) Foundation in Baton Rouge, to 33 months in federal prison.
Prosecutors alleged Funes approved payments of approximately $180,000 to an individual identified as "Individual C" in the bill of information.
Sources told ESPN that "Individual C" is the father of former LSU offensive lineman Vadal Alexander, who was a four-year starter for the Tigers from 2012 to 2015. His father, James Alexander, is a self-employed entrepreneur in Atlanta.
The bill of information didn't specify when the payments to James Alexander were allegedly made. The Baton Rouge Business Report reported in June that Funes sent the money to James Alexander when his son was still playing for the Tigers, which might be a violation of NCAA rules regarding impermissible benefits.

idk
I think the SEC is just a little down.
Saban retired from Alabama
LSU, Auburn, Florida have all made big coaching mistakes.
Kirby Smart is turning into Mark Richt (Bobo hire and all)
Texas is Texas. Same shite as always and OU is trying to bounce back from Riley leaving.

Bill Bell, a Mississippi State booster and former player at the school, told the NCAA he received a text message from a man claiming to represent Cam Newton's father that outlined a payment plan designed to bring the quarterback to the Bulldogs.
Bell said former teammate Kenny Rogers told him Cecil Newton wanted money for his son to play at Mississippi State.
Bell told ESPN.com he also shared a series of voice mail messages from Rogers with the NCAA last week. Bell said Cecil Newton never specifically asked him for money, but that Newton was present during three-way calls in which Rogers discussed a pay-for-play scheme.
Bell said he told the NCAA that Rogers sent him a text message outlining a payment schedule. Bell said the text included a request for $80,000 the day after Cam Newton signed with Mississippi State, $50,000 30 days after that and another $50,000 30 days later.

Geography mattered more when SEC was dominating. Now it doesn't. That's an advantage for the Big 10.
Also, as always, we're taking the success of one team and applying it to the whole conference. It was done with Saban's Bama, and now we're doing it with these teams.
In reality, the Big 10 as a whole is no better than the SEC, but Indiana Football and Michigan hoops did masterful jobs using the portal to construct their rosters.

Big10 fans are basically conceding that they are finding recent success only because players are being paid over the table.
B1G fans are saying once the playing field is more even, they are winning.
I'm not saying that as I went to OSU and I'm sure OSU was doing a lot for their players pre nil and had minimal problems convincing top level kids to the school

How is richer donor bases spending more money a more level playing field?

So the Big 10 was willing to hide the rape of hundreds and hundreds of victims, mostly all systemic rape events, but paying some athletes was too low for them?
The biggest icon on Big 10 history knew for a FACT that an assistant of his was sticking his old arse dick in a child’s a-hole, but paying athletes was just a step too far.
Ok.
ETA: This is most likely pride just trolling.

He wasn’t top 5 in big ten history if we including all sports. His time as an Indy playing a bunch of garbage competition meant nothing to league history.

Well he’s up there and was the face of the league at the time

So SEC teams hand out money under the table. Big 10 teams on the other hand rape boys (PSU) and fondle female athletes (Mich St). Got it

quote:this is the correct answer, if the portal didn’t exist the SEC would still be at the top because they could still stockpile blue chip talent 3 deep on a depth chart. Thats what’s hurt the conference football wise and to a degree the Big 10 has the better coaches at the moment.
Some of it is cyclical. Some of it is their deep pockets. I've been saying for a while that the portal is more of "issue" than NIL and they have been much better at working the portal and constructing teams than the SEC.

You’re forgetting that Michigan and Ohio state won the two years before that.
Big ten has stepped up their game in the portal era. Hoops had half the elite 8 and final four. Kind of crazy, but last night was the fourth big ten team UConn played in last 5 games since getting UCLA in round of 32. League was deep.

How did Sandusky raping children and Michigan States creep gymnastics guy help win football games?

I don't think so, tbh. I mean maybe some, but I don't think to any large degree, at least not compared to the major schools. I'm sure places like Indiana or something wasn't cheating nearly as much as our big SEC schools were. What NIL has done has allowed the big money schools to really flex their muscles more than they could pre-NIL. The Big 10 schools have way more money than the SEC schools do. The illegality of the previous cheating probably helped the SEC in that they weren't going to just get blown out of the water on an offer, and could allow all the other benefits of being in the SEC win out.
The cheating limited how much everyone could comfortably give to a kid before the red flags starting really popping up. Not the case anymore and the big money up north can really throws some stupid numbers around.

It’s your holier than thou attitude that makes the comparison appropriate to me. SEC hires coaches with the bags, Big 10 hires diddlers and figs.
