Nyan Brown, who was running the anchor leg for Mallard Creek High School Mavericks, crossed the finish line first. However, he and his team were promptly disqualified.

Brown was caught doing a hand gesture before he crossed the finish line. Any kind of gestures or celebrations prior to the finish line are outlawed. Mallard Creek was stripped of the win and dropped to second overall in the meet.

"Officials at the event said Mallard Creek had received a warning after Brown flexed toward photographers after winning the 300m hurdles earlier in the day. Brown's hand gesture was the team's second violation and resulted in the disqualification, costing the team what would have been their third straight track title."

Disappointing.

Part of me is act like you've been there: part of me is that some people are too soft.

I am just going to say a few things and leave it there.

1) The official who DQd him gave him a warning earlier. She is also a black woman.

2) I do not think the rule is good and it needs to be adjusted. Similar to last year when the swimmer at NC State who was DQd after swimming and winning the ACC title in the mile for celebrating with his teammates AFTER the race ended.

That's so dumb that that's a rule.

Usain Bolt looking around and realizing he was going to win before crossing the finish line was an awesome moment.

I'd be curious if you polled the kids in the picture behind him, what they thought of it

Would they be outraged and feel disrespected, belittled, etc.

Or would they not give a single frick, and would have done the same thing if they were that far out in front of their state title run

Creating "sportsmanship" rules for athletes doesn't make sense unless the athletes themselves have a problem with what's being done

Good. Teach them a lesson. High school sports is now the last bastion where students really do play the game as a game. Well until Texas and Alabama allow NIL for high school kids.

This is like college football when a guy couldn’t even look into the stands.

Terrible argument.

Why is celebrating considered bad?

It doesn't matter if anyone else likes it........its a rule.

Don't run if you dont like it. They are so stupid they would rather celebrate than anything else................its ALL ABOUT THEM.

Look at the graduation videos.

Watch the video in the link, the 2nd place finisher knew right away, looks like he told him that he was DQ. He walks up to him says something and points the baton, he then he reacts.

I love the idiots arguing “just let them do whatever they want” they’re the same people wondering how upper level sports have decayed so much, especially college sports where they supported every step that’s led to its chaotic end.

Was already warned once, but didn't think the rules applied to him.

Just finish the race and then celebrate, what's so hard about that?

So the fun game doesn’t allow him to celebrate?

He wasn’t taunting anyone
