I stand corrected. Under CPJ and Gailey, they had largely moved away from it.

O'Leary brought back the traditional home whites in the 90s. Like LSU, they were only wearing blue at home because of the NCAA rule.

Johnson still broke out the blue for the Orange Bowl and ACC Championship games though.

LSU used to wear what most would call “traditional gold”. We went to the yellow style gold sometime in the 50s I believe

Yep, which is why we had to wear purple in the 2000 Peach Bowl and why they wore navy in the 2008 Peach Bowl

I had forgotten Ga Tech wore that brown mustard color for a bit like Notre Dame does now.

I haven't watched GT football in a while. Their fans hadn't, either.

I had forgotten how much GT had dicked with their uniforms in general until all the pics in this thread.

Good grief, some of the Russell Athletic looks were abysmal.

They barely use navy in their color scheme anymore

Bro, Tech wore all navy against Clemson to open this season.

They wore Navy tops against Virginia last month.

They wore navy bottoms against Florida State last week.

Arkansas Razorbacks used to be the Arkansas Cardinals and wore purple and yellow instead of red and white as you can see in this photo.

random memory I have from that game is one of the Tech players' jerseys ripped during the game and he literally got a replacement jersey using the one his mom was wearing in the stands

Has anyone said Miami yet?

The Hurricanes wore green and gold for a very long time.

But I did not know they wore the nautical hurricane flags as a logo on their helmet.

This is future Oakland Raider and NFL Hall of Famer Ted Hendricks in 1968…

I have Lao noticed that many football teams’ pants have adopted a more noticeable codpiece and rear butt flap on their pants. Note the Baylor uni pics.

Where is Liberace and MikeLbr on this subject?

I remember that game as well. Too funny that actually happened

Baylor going from a true gold to highlighter yellow.

Baylor’s yellow isn’t “highlighter” yellow.

Georgia Tech Master's grad here (1989).

With all the talk about Georgia Tech, one thing that was missed was that under the tenure of Bill Curry (1980-86) Tech used BLACK instead of NAVY BLUE.

This was also when Pat Swilling played for Tech:

Kind of interesting, as Tech's official school colors are old gold and white. As these are both very bright colors, both the black and the navy are 'tertiary' colors used to add contrast, not a official primary color. Sort of like the way Tennessee (orange and white) sometimes has used black outlines/accents/stripes on their uniforms, or Mississippi State (maroon/white) has used gray on theirs.

Tech switched back to navy as the tertiary color when Curry left / Bobby Ross was hired in 1987 and I started grad school there. A lot of the GT gear in the bookstore was still in black and gold when I started there.

Of course back in the 1980s, all teams had to wear dark/color jerseys at home, and Tech (like LSU) had preferred to wear white at home, so they basically HAD to wear black or navy at home. As far as I can figure, they NEVER wore gold jerseys during the required color/dark jersey era, not sure if they were available from manufacturers at the time (though they were in the 1940s/50s) or if NCAA wouldn't allow them because they were too light.

This is also kind of similar to Colorado and their baby blue phase. Their original official colors were silver and gold, which is kind of hard to do on a uniform. They went with black as a tertiary, used blue sporadically (and switched to it from black officially in 1981), then went 'Back to Black' in 1985. Colorado logo and Uniform Evolution

Army needs to go back to these 2008 uniforms
