It should be Napier saying something like this. Last few years have been absolutely brutal. Miami can frick off forever in this new format playing them is stupid.

This opinion would make Tennessee the first true national champion. After reading all the UT hate during baseball season, not sure many on this board could handle this realization.

It’s ridiculous that college football has gone from having to win them all - or maybe one loss to another top team - to avoiding scheduling a game that might give your team a third loss that keeps you out of a 12 team playoff.

Exactly. I thought the expanded playoffs would be mean more teams would be willing to play big OOC matchups. It's going the other way, though. The SEC and B1G are so big and loaded, I guess I don't really care too much.

Cut it to eight teams. No auto bids. You can instruct the committee to place added weight on conference titles if that’s something you think should matter, but whatever your criteria, top eight goes, period, end of story.

The solution is really simple. A component of SOS needs to be truly added into the selection criteria coupled with with w/l and maybe even a computed rating system similar to the bcs. Very few people actually had a problem with the bcs system itself, and more with only 2 teams getting in

We had our P4 opponents buy out of our games or cancel forcing us to scramble it’s not for lack of trying

Everyone assumed with the two "super+conferences" coaches would proclaim they have a "marquee" game every week beating each other up...so when OOC is now in Conference...the rest of the schedule would be glorified bye weeks more so than at any time since schools played the Coast Guard.

This is just further progression of the sport narrowing despite on paper seemingly expanding.

No. 90% of teams were out of the running by week 5.

People will bash him but he’s right.

Once again, LsU is retarded for scheduling Clemson.

And it was glorious. Every week the stakes were high. The entire season WAS the playoffs essentially. There was little margin for error. And I would argue this format gives less teams a shot at actually winning a title. 1984 BYU will never happen in this format. Smaller teams had a better chance to win a big game or two in the midst of an undefeated season and then if they make the title game all they have to do is win one game. Smaller teams are not running through 4 talented teams in a row to win a natty despite the facade of auto bids "giving them a chance". I can see them winning a one game upset in the future. Hell maybe even 2. But they aren't winning 4 in a row. Instead what this format really does is give actual talented teams more chances to slip up and still get in the playoffs and make a run, they don't have to go out and be the best team in the regular season anymore, they just have to have a good enough season to get in.

Now teams can tank rivalry week and still make the playoffs. Michigan beating Ohio St this last year should have been an upset that ended OSU's natty hopes on the spot and a game that goes down in history forever like 2006 USC/UCLA or 2007 WVU/Pitt where those teams lost their rivalry game to mediocre-bad opponents and their natty hopes all at once. Instead that upset was rendered moot and irrelevant and will be a small print footnote in history books. If this is the type of format you wanted, the NFL always existed. College football was it's own unique thing. Now it's just a cheap NFL imitation.

I personally don't care about NIL or players getting paid now. I always kind of thought it was dumb that players couldn't profit off of a youtube channel or be in commercials, and programs with money have been buying players under the table through all of history anyway. My biggest issues have always been this unlimited transfer stuff with the portal going on and the ever expanding playoff format diluting the meaningfulness of the regular season. Just those 2 changes have made the sport unrecognizable.

Watch OSU try to buy their way out of the Georgia and Alabama series

They won’t get out of Texas since UT is going to Columbus first and isn’t going to let OSU skip out on the return trip to Austin.

They really blew it by expanding the playoff beyond 8.

5 conference champs and 3 at-large still ensured that deserving teams would get their shot while still making the regular season matter since 2 losses likely knocks you out of at-large contention. And you’d still have to play a respectable schedule with only 3 at large spots

Nope. Just boring and "wait till next year" by early October.

Good. The best should be National Champion and win it on the field.
