I could listen to Scully, Facenda, and Kalas just read the yellow pages..and be entertained.

The man was a national treasure. I grew up a Dodgers fan and my mom would play the games on the radio all of the time. He will be missed greatly.

This one hurts. RIP to a true legend and an awesome human being (so it appears). What a life he had.

"In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened!"
Watch how long Vin lets the moment breathe without talking over it. And then he weaves one of his masterpieces that was as poetic as it was perfect.

I hate the Dodgers with an inordinate passion. However, I watched their games just to listen to Vin Scully. The best ever. Period.

I grew up on Jack Buck and Mike Shannon but always loved listening to Vin Scully.
As a kid, I thought his name was Vince Gulley. Never paid attention as to whether or not his name came up pre-game on the graphics.

He was the national voice of baseball for so many years on NBC. You knew a game was important when he and Joe Garagiola were on the call. The Madden Summerall duo of the sport. He’s back with Jackie, Reese, Campanella, Hodges, Snider, etc in the great Ebbets Field in the sky. RIP

One of the Dodgers’ Mount Rushmore. Thankfully, the rest of us got 7 great years with him on the NBC Game of the Week in the ‘80s. Also did NFL and golf for CBS in the ‘70s and early ‘89s.
He was the best.
He was the best.

I wish I remembered who said it, but it was once said you could put up color bars and have Vin Scully read numbers from a phone book over the air and millions would still tune in.
Just yesterday morning I went down a YouTube rabbit hole of Scully uploads. All 27 outs of Kershaw’s no-no, Costner’s farewell speech and his goodbye on his final broadcast. No idea he was literally at death’s doorstep.

From 1939-2016 the Dodgers had two play-by-play guys, and both of them are considered among at least the greatest ever in any sport. Red Barber and Vin Scully.
Godspeed to the last of a generation.

Greatest announcer ever. Not even close. And I'm a Giants fan.

Top 7-10 imo. A legend no doubt but I don’t think best of all time.
There’s always got to be that guy in these threads.

Scully's 1982 speech upon receiving the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball HOF
I've always been amazed that he was so honored and he still had a whole other half of a career to go.
