When Aaron hit No. 715, he supposedly got up from the microphone, poured himself a glass of water and drank it very deliberately before sitting back down and saying anything.

Watch how long Vin lets the moment breathe without talking over it. And then he weaves one of his masterpieces that was as poetic as it was perfect.

Gibson's HR is my favorite sports moment of all time, in any sport. It was essentially every kid's dream becoming reality and the "soundtrack" to that moment will always be Vin Scully. He never tried to make himself the star of the show and, in the process, became one of the stars. Him just sitting silent while Gibson rounded the bases, letting the country experience the euphoria in Dodger Stadium in that moment was masterful, before eventually chiming in with that great line

Many nights when I was over tired and pissed off at current events I would put the Dodgers game on close my eyes.It was always like he was in the room talking to me and the subject just happened to be a ball game.
RIP Vin Scully. America's Grandpa.

2 teachers let us 9th graders in Nj hear the ny Yankees vs brooklyn dodgers.
we heard parts of a couple vin scully games.
mantle hr. in homeroom.
the perfect no hitter finished in p.e.

I preferred jack buck the cardinals guy.
in lake charles we got cards baseball before houston was a thing.
a few great calls.
Ashburn vs Musial for the batting average champ.
bob Gibson striking out Richie Allen and johnny Callison with based loaded.
and a Phils 9th inning comeback from 2 down in bottom of 9th with so many singles in a row. never even got 2 out.

while we are at it the pirates announcers during stargell era were the worst homers ever. the team were bums so long the announcers went nuts with a championship team .

He was never a favorite of mine, but there is no doubt few, if any, did it better.

Top 7-10 imo. A legend no doubt but I don’t think best of all time.

"That is fertilizer, says Kemp, over and over"

During a benches clearing brawl, you can clearly see Matt Kemp dropping F bombs.

He waited what seemed like an eternity before talking again. Sometimes the game speaks for itself and Vin understood that.

He was the peoples broadcaster.

If the moment was great, he let you enjoy it. If the game was dull, he'd spin yarns from his Encyclopedia mind and 60 years of baseball knowledge. I mean, he started his career with the Dodgers in Brooklyn.
