In reality, that’s a tough ask to do it every week. These guys just don’t plop headsets on and do a broadcast. Lots of prep work for just one game a week. Add another two days later and do that for at least a dozen weeks and that’s a heavy load. Even Buck/Aikman occasionally take a Sunday off after a Thursday game if FOX doesn’t have a doubleheader that Sunday.

I’d kind of like to see some of the better announce teams NOT do all the prep work and just have some drinks while winging it. May as well this year

Dude is a machine...if he can fly from Game Day cross country to do a night game and crush it, he can handle this.

Problem is the prep time... having to prepare for two broadcasts a week. I guess they could prep Tues - Fri 70% college 30% pro, call Saturday, then prep Sun/Mon morning for MNF.

There is also prep time for Herbie for College Gameday. I'm guessing there won't be any traveling to campus this year, but still have to prepare for the show.

He'll get some time back not having to travel, but that's still a lot.

No. Frank Gifford was. Dandy Don Meredith was the analyst & front man for Howie.

So Howard was the color analyst?

It’s clearly their best option if they can’t get Tirico or the great Brian Anderson.

I'm dating myself, but Howard Cosell never played a down in the NFL. The ratings didn't suffer.

Yeah, but didn't he have guys who played in the NFL on the broadcast team with him? A broadcast team of just Fowler and Herbstreit has no one with NFL playing/coaching experience on it, which was my point. Not that they'll do a bad job, I'm sure they'll do just fine, it's just sort of strange.

So no more Joe Tessatori? Thank you, Lord. I'll turn the audio back on for MNF.

He calls playoff baseball and March Madness games for TBS, and is the Brewers play by play guy. He's very good at his job and I would like to see him get more of a national role.

Most network lead announcers aren't former NFL players. Frank was an exception. Most NFL analysts are former players. Howie was an exception. Like you I'm puzzled why ESPN is going with their #1 college team the first week of the NFL season.

Saturday Night college football just wouldn't be the same without Herby and Fowler.

y’all think Tess is more suited to college football anyway

Will say this. If they’re not prepping for broadcasts you will notice

I like how the greatest NFL coach of all time never even sniffed playing in the NFL.

Likely wont be a huge issue when college football is shutdown because a few players catch it

Well, last I checked, I'm not very popular, nor am I the MSB.

I don't really care for Tess much, and I definitely wouldn't trade Herbie/Fowler to MNF for Tess.

Anything to get them off of CFB is good w me. I like Herbstreet but find the pairing with Fowler to be a bit bland
