So 30 years later attention seeking? Wendy's commercial make him feel relevant again.

I'm surprised the current group of NBA guys want to play in the Olympics, they are far left zealots who hate America.

At this point it is likely recruiting opportunities for the big money guys.

You don’t tend to reliably get the top US players anymore but whoever shows up can put a bug in the ear of a Zion or Ja Morant that may pay off down the road.

Jordan extracted the best basketball out of a bunch of scrubs and role players

Yeah those scrubs like Pippen, Rodman, Kerr, Horace Grant, Kukoc, Ron Harper

Not to mention one of the top 5 coaches of all time.

Not saying MJ isn't the best BBall player ever, because he is, but let's not pretend he didn't have some bad asses to ride with either.

This is about as bad a take I have ever seen on those bulls teams. Calling those guys scrubs is ridiculous. They made the eastern conference finals the year Jordan sat out. Pippen was considered the second best player in the NBA by many and was a hall of Famer. Rodman was easily the best defensive player in the league. Guys like Ron Harper had 20 point scoring averages before he came to the bulls. Kucok could play. They always had a 3 pt specialist. Bulls were effing stacked.

I love this shite! Nobody was trying to play with each other back then like they are now. Back then all the superstars wanted to kill each other.

True for the most part. Right up until you have a Hall of Fame career and then get to the end and have no rings to show for it. That's when you latch onto a contender and try to solidify your legacy. Several big named stars from that era ended up doing just that.

Gary Payton
Charles Barkley
Karl Malone

And while I know it's not the same as what's going on right now, it's definitely similar. Hell, even Shaq tried to grab a late one with Lebron.

They played together for four years and didn’t do shite, not because either one was hurt, but because neither one of them was ever going to lead a team to a title. Two sidekicks that needed an no. 1 guy.

you are full of fricking shite. Grant Hill was a #1 and prolly the next top 5 great if he doesnt get hurt. Him as a piston was beautiful to watch. By the time he was in Orlando he was a shadow of his former self.

McGrady might have been the best pure scorer of that era. Again injuries killed him in the end.

The only time the NBA stars wanted to team up with each other was to kick the shite out of other countries in 1992.

Baloney. Plenty of superstars of that era were chasing rings elsewhere. Charles Barkley went to Phoenix to try to be the difference on a team very close to winning it all and then he went to Houston and tried to get their 3rd NBA championship. Clyde the Glide Drexler and his teammate Terry Porter both moved from Portland to Houston and San Antonio to do the same, win that first ring. Karl Malone and Gary Payton left their teams to chase a ring with the Lakers. Then Payton went to the Miami Heat and won one with Shaq and Wade. To name a few guys from the Joran era.

Even Miller was seriously considering chasing a title with Ewing and the Knicks, of all teams. The Knicks were looking for a sharpshooter to replace the inconsistent Starks.

The Knicks finally signed Houston, while Miller was in Atlanta for the 1996 Olympics. Reggie got the news at the U.S. team's hotel and went whining to teammate Grant Hill of the Pistons. "Your guy just ruined my plans."

According to what Miller himself said about it on a TNT broadcast in 2015, “I think if the Knicks wouldn’t have signed Allan Houston it would have made my decision that much tougher,” Miller said. “When they went with Allan Houston it kind of made it easy for me to go back to Indiana.”

The Jordan era was no different from any other era that allowed free agency. Superstars chase rings, it's what they do. Reggie Miller has always been too much in love with himself to ever see the hypocrisy in almost everything he says about modern basketball. He suffers mightily from selective memory syndrome. Unfortunately, it gets worse as you get older.

If Miller played today, this board would call him a soft pussy 3 point shooting choke artist who cant win because he isnt clutch

Barkley would be a fat lazy slob who cant win a ring because he isnt willing to work hard enough

This board would roast those players for not winning a single title

You can say a lot of things about Reggie Miller, but that he's not clutch shouldn't be one of them.

Without a doubt in my mind that would be the narrative today. You cant win a ring, you arent clutch. Its that simple

So a bunch of washed up dudes or near washed up dudes chasing rings? Yes, that will always happen. What happens now is that guys are moving in the prime of their careers.

Because sports fans and sports media completely and utterly dismisses you as an all time great now without rings. That shift happened around the turn of the millennium to where that was the only metric used in conversation

If you constantly told a woman she is hideous for having small boobs, dont be shocked or upset when she goes get a pair of bolt ons

Old school vs new school way of thinking. Easier to join a super team than do all the heavy lifting yourself. For the most part back in the day you had a superstar and a great player with other guys. Now you have atleast 2 if not 3 superstars on the team with scrubs to fill the roster out.

There's also the story of Magic trying to recruit Reggie to L.A. before he signed an extension with Indiana. Building something there was super important to him. Regardless of if he successful, I can respect that.

Just a different league now.
