Which is why the RB is coming back. Defenses adjusted.

Flacco

61.7%—243 yards/g—1.43 TD/g—0.85 int/g—84.4 rating

Hurts

64.4%—270 yards/g—2.12 tds/g—0.59 int/g—93.5 rating

See how memory and nostalgia works?

I think if you look historically you'll view that era as being a big outlier.

We have several really good QBs now though. Mahomes and Allen are incredible. Lamar might be getting in the conversation with those guys now.

Seeing the Darnold and Baker "reclamation projects" be pretty successful makes me wonder how good they would have been if given competent coaching from the get-go.

Jayden Daniels looks good. Burrow is good.

Trevor is at least good enough to be a top 10 guy but is trapped on a mismanaged franchise with bad coaching.

Tampa 2 & Cover 2 have been around for awhile.

This is more run out of the cover 4, which has much more complicated coverages and more expansive options for the boundary CBs.

We are in a period in which defenses have caught up with offenses, especially in regards to the passing game. The elimination of larger hard hitting safety's having an enforcer type role over the middle has teams playing smaller glorified cornerbacks in their role which has lead to better coverage. Offenses have countered by going to the run and shorter passing game which keeps the clock moving and shortening games.

I was looking at fantasy rankings to end the year and the number of 1000 yard rushers is pretty shocking (and that's with very few bellcow RBs)

We had 6 guys over 1400 and 2 guys over 1900.

The number of guys with 10+ TDs is pretty crazy too.

2 high safety has gone up 50% just since 2019. I bet if you go back to 2010 it’s 100% increase

Yes teams went from copying the Legion of Boom Cover 3 model to the Fangio Cover 4 model.

Now teams are running more effectively, which is going to cause a defensive shift and open up more passing.

And we go round and round like always.

I got into a debate with a buddy a few years ago about Eli’s prime and how long it was. I was surprised he was only an elite for a couple seasons (if that) and good for a few more. He was pretty mid as far as franchise QBs go.

Yes there were many more during that time that would be great today.

I just think it’s definitely watered down the last few draft classes.

Hurts is not that far off from Flacco through their first few seasons.

I threw out the rookie years since Hurts didn't start a full season and Flacco did, and then compared the next 4 seasons.

Flacco
Record: 43-21
1,250/2,061 (61%)
14,662 yards
88 TDs
44 INTs
250 Rush Yards
5 Rush TDs

Hurts
Record: 45-17
1,171/1,791 (65%)
13,606 yards
79 TDs
35 INTs
2,779 Rush Yards
52 Rush TDs

I'm defending Hurts in this comparison.

Flacco is remembered for being much better than he really was because he had an elite season in a contract year and won the Super Bowl.

Flacco was very very good as a traditional pocket passer QB. I'm just not sure he belongs in that elite tier as some of the other QBs in his era.

there are a lot of great young QBs out there. I think the future of the QB position in the NFL looks great TBH
