One of the best ballparks in MLB and an owner that won't spend money.

Hell of a combo.

With Skenes pitching???

Are you serious??

If terms of if New Orleans would have a bigger crowd, most people don't know that Skenes went to LSU, even in the baseball world. College baseball is a niche sport.

In terms of baseball overall, most casual fans couldn't name 3 people on a MLB roster.

You know how many of those die-hard Yankee fans were in attendance the day Roger Maris broke what is probably the most esteemed record in all of sports*? 23,000. That's it. And it's not like the '61 Bombers were some rag-tag collection of bums, either. They were one of the legendary teams of all time; setting a then record of HRs by a team in a season. And everyone knows New York fans are the greatest fans in every sport. Ever. No question. Just ask them.

This narrative of "The fans in X city are garbage" needs to die.

Just wait until they deal him to a more relevant franchise. It will only get worse

Worst fans in baseball

Pirates fans are great. It’s just that they have one of the cheapest owners in all of sports that doesn’t care about winning.

Why should the fans put more money in his pockets when he doesn’t give a frick about the product on the field?

I hope he gets dealt to the Dodgers just so I can see you suffer

On a message board of course. Because as a real life Dodger fan it would be the opposite

Point stands. If Skenes was in Miami or Denver, he’d be playing in front of crowds smaller than his college days
Miami yes

Colorado has half of Pittsburgh’s win total and still averages 10,000 more fans. And the in-person crowds are shockingly still decent (source - me, who’s been to 2 games in the last month)

that's a good Tuesday night crowd for the Pirates:

Tue Apr 8 vs Cardinals 8291
Tue Apr 15 vs Nationals 8340
Tue Apr 29 vs Cubs 9434
Tue May 20 vs Reds 10071
Tue Jun 3 vs Astros 15891

Top 3 ballpark, great fans, they're basically boycotting ownership. I'm convinced Pittsburgh sports sacrificed the Pirates for the breaks the Penguins have gotten the last 20 years

Pittsburgh has great baseball fans. They a have the worst franchise in the league. They are starving for just a taste of success.

Pittsburgh is an incredible baseball town. People don't realize that even with the Steelers winning Superbowls, the Pirates were still more popular until the late 90's when they went on the 21 year losing streak.

How much abuse do you expect the fans to take? The only way to hurt the ownership, is to stop showing up.

To be clear this isn't a fan support problem with the Pirates. It's an ownership problem.

this is your answer. I'm here for work and they LOVE the team. But it's a bigger statement about the ownership direction. It is a shame because the stadium is amazing and the players are playing better/harder. New Orleans baseball would be laughable. The history and legacy of the Pirates cannot be understated. Stupid post.

No they wouldn't. NOLA couldn't even support a minor league baseball team.

The Pelicans are historically in the bottom 25-30% of the NBA in attendance damn near every year.

And mid day baseball games in July and August would struggle to draw decent sized crowds because a lot of fans won't want to sit in the miserable NOLA heat and humidity during the dog days of summer.

MLB should shut down 2 and move 1

instead they'll expand and whatever number they increase, an equal or more franchises will fall into mismanagement, teetering on failure

I hate Pittsburgh sports team....but Pirates fans are damn good. Was lucky enough to go to a game up there earlier this year and lots of Pirate gear at the bars and pubs near the stadium and asked if they were going to the game, and essentially was no, &$&($#& the owner
