Matt Campbell of Iowa State could be a candidate. I think he is realizing that the ceiling isn't very high in Ames.

an amazing record at Penn State

He has a 34% winning percentage against the top 25. You have an uncommon definition of "amazing."

This is a move Penn State will come to regret.

But that would probably cost them legit close to $100M or more to fire Franklin, buyout Cignetti, and then sign him to a deal., plus his staff.

More….don’t forget the possible buyouts of Franklins staff and any NIL money that can’t be recouped.

If Franklin wants to he will be coaching next year. That will mitigate some of the buyout.

Man…to be a fan of an athletic program with that kind of access to booster cash. Must be nice. I, for one, am envious as f—-.

Has anyone else ever gone from a FG away from playing for the title to fired midway the next year?

All this says to me is the Big 10 really is about to sell it's soul for that idiotic private equity deal that will be the beginning of the end of college football.

I tend to agree. 50 mil to make him go away to get who? Whoever they do happen to get will have an uphill battle to match his success there. They weren't any better before he got there. The championship or bust mantra of this age is an expensive way to go about business. And these programs are indeed a business.

That said , as a fan of LSU that wishes we'd make Kelly go away, I completely get the emotional response.

Boosters had a hissy fit....kinda like LSU with Miles. I'm not sure that whomever PSU will get will do much better. One thing is for sure, booze swilling boosters will get together and find more money to piss away.

Not sure how firing JF means private equity but I do think that every single bit of moral high ground they used to claim over the SEC has flipped completely on it’s head.

The SEC has done its best to try to preserve traditional rivalries and keep regional ties that made college football great.

Big ten has been gone for some time.

Which make sense for trashy northern nfl fans anyways

It could just be a rich arse alum that hates him but this happening right as all the reports of the Big 10 heavily considering getting into bed w/PE makes me wonder if PSU knows they are about to get a massive infusion of cash.

I don’t see a serious p4 conference taking him. Now many G5 schools would absolutely snatch him up imo.

Franklin isn’t great, but it doesn’t seem like there is a great pool of candidates out there that will be better than him.

His ability to win nearly every single game he should have won was very impressive. That accomplishment was overshadowed by his inability to win anything against anyone else.

That type of consistency over years is unsustainable. Eventually the dam has to break. A lot of people thought this might be this season, and they were correct.

Unfortunately for Franklin, the wrong dam broke. He still can’t get a win against anyone on an equal or slightly higher level, but now he’s losing those other games, and the losses are against teams not close to Penn State’s level.
