Why is a judge overriding actual baseball umpires?

We should ask a judge for a redo of that pass interference call…

This … I don’t have an issue with the ejection but don’t leave the door cracked for something like this. If I were running LL I would have the heads of the marketing idiots who actually thought presenting bad flipping by kids as a positive thing on a damn platter.

Part of the benefit of youth sports is teaching kids that life doesn’t always go your way and you need to push on. We gotta stop looking for perfection is every aspect of life.

As an official, this is a terrible precedent set here by the judge. In my sport of soccer, I love the fact that the governing rule body (IFAB) has inserted six words into nearly every rule. Those six words are-

In the Opinion of the Referee.

This, however, is not the worst I've ever seen. A football player in New Mexico is diagnosed by an athletic trainer with a concussion (kid said he was unconscious for 20-30 seconds); state law says he can't play for at least a week, meaning he isn't allowed to play in the state title game. Parents send him to get a second opinion, withholding the fact from the doctor that he had a diagnosed concussion. Doctor clears him; parents sue and win. Kid only plays one play in the 4th quarter of a game they won. WTF are the parents thinking, possibly risking his life?!?

I see you ignored the fact that little league promoted bat flips.

This kid didn’t flip the bat. He threw it.

Probably. But the umpire ejected him. I think either way it was justified.

That’s a poor job of umpiring. You don’t hang your fellow umpire out to dry. You go over there to try to diffuse the situation and maybe have a discussion with said umpire about the call in question. At the end of the day, the goal is to make the right call.

Do you know the kid? Calling him a douche just for bat flipping at that moment let the kid have fun.

This kid could have flipped his bat like 99% of the other kids and been fine. He could have jumped up and down around the bases, stomped on home plate. This wasn’t about him having fun, it was about him wanting a look-at-me, viral moment in the era of social media. And with the actions of his dad…it’s all clear. It’s probably a look-at-me family. Fact is, he chunked the bat in the air and it is a violation of the safety issue.

The promo videos show bat flipping, not bat throwing.

I only do that to the egotistical ones. The good ones, we take care of each other.

The world is moving away from umpires discretion. Too much leeway, some people pay the price, some get away with it. That won’t hold up in a court of law. Like I said, enforce it consistently. Also, on some of the videos, kids were throwing their bat in the air, like the kid from Nicaragua. No ejection

I bet the same people that defended Bear Jones walk off against Tenn are the ones piling on a freaking 12 year old. The game is over once the ball goes over the fence, who gives a frick if he flipped the bat a bit too high. Umpire is a pussy for getting involved. If the kids on the other team had a problem then they can let their peer know.

Little League is where you try to teach sportsmanship. The rule about safety is in the book. I wouldn’t have called it, but I don’t have a problem with him making the call.

I’ll say it again. This kid didn’t learn it from watching major leaguers and college ball. The kid has been doing this in practice before, and I’m sure he was enabled by daddy.

If he’s good enough to play D1, then he can flip all the bats he wants and wear a heater on his back.

Involving the legal system over a little league game is NEVER the right answer.

Does LL need to clean up their messaging? Yes.

Is dad a massive douche and the reason people hate lawyers? Also yes.

How do you know this wasn’t discussed in a prior game? Or pre game?

You think you are part of the solution, but you are actually part of the problem.

Why in the hell do we have a society where little league baseball and “court of law” is in the same mention?

Bring on the alien invasion.

With a few exceptions, $100/game is my minimum get. Umpires can call their shots these days because of the demand.

Back in my day, you get jumped in the parking lot after the game by showing up everyone. Totally classless.
It baffles me that you could type those two sentences in a row and not see the comical double standard of calling others classless while bragging about “back in my day we used to beat the crap out of people in the parking lot”.

Guess you don’t have kids or ever played sports.

Let them have fun.. who cares. …

And people wonder why interest in baseball is down

If you have to toss a bat 15 feet in the air for the home run to be fun, then you have issues.

Is this really why? Has the excessive celebration or taunting penalty lowered interest in football?

Common sense says the umpire pulls the kid and coach aside and issues a warning. “Hey guys, don’t do that again, it’s not safe, it can get the other side riled up, and it’s little league.

I would have thought by there would already be some standing rule or discussion that you cant flip the bat. If you don't want kids doing bat flips make it a rule and tell every team at the start of the tournament you will be ejected if you flip your bat.
