We really don't need to say "if" b/c there is no way in hell his wife didn't tell him about it.
She said in the texts between the two of them that she would tell her husband about the abuse. The wives of the other assistant coaches also knew.
There is no way Meyer did not know about the allegations of abuse against this guy.

I agree with the principle of OPs argument, but I despise Meyer so much, I'm going to watch that self serious, self righteous jerk go down.

I’m not saying you are wrong
I am saying I could see someone who is honorable( not Urban) not informing the school because they honestly think the cops being made aware is the top of the food chain and ipso facto is making that “public”
I could see that being an honest mistake even a moral person would make

You realize T-boy was brought into the cops and realeased without charges correct?
I feel like that is going unnoticed here
For good reason though. That shite happens all the damn time with domestic abuse. Going to the police routinely gets women killed.
I know there are crazy women who make this shite up too, not denying that, but focusing on the lack of criminal charges is dumb IMO.
Regardless, all he had to do was report it to the AD.
ETA - I see your edit about being unaware of additional reporting.

Dude I am just saying I don’t think it’s crazy to think the police being made aware would make one think the school is now aware as well
Urban is scum so there is a good chance he did something wrong, but i could see a good person thinking the cops being made aware and letting him go, and one believing their friend that the wife is crazy

That would be bad, bc even if the cops know of it, you might have crucial information to convict a criminal or exonerate a wrongly accused person.
Specific to Meyer, I don't think he made a honest mistake in not reporting. He pretty vehemently denied he knew at all. He either didn't know and was telling the truth or he knew and was lying. I can't see a legitimate possibility he knew, then lied about knowing at media day.

That is why I said him lying about not knowing was retarded
So ducking dumb
If he says this at media day I honestly don’t think he takes much heat if any at all
"I had heard some things about coach smith. I knew it was reported to the cops, so I figured it was taken care of and all was well when no legal charges were brought against him. As a father to a daughter, I feel absolutely sick to my stomach I allowed this to happen in my prgoram and didnt see more to it"
or
" I really do not want to comment on this subject. Mrs. Smith is going through a terrible time and she deserves her privacy on this issue"

He chose the dumbest fricking way to lie if he did. That’s honestly why I’m not sure I believe he knew.
Like he could’ve lied and said he reported it up to the ad or anything other than what he did that would’ve been much harder to discredit.

God damn ESPN is getting their asses kicked on this story.
fricking STADIUM got her interview? Dafuq?

How they hell does this shitty thread have 37 upvotes to this point?
This is one of the most insanely idiotic goddamn things I've ever seen on this board.
A head coach at a Univeristy is ultimately responsible for everything that happens within his program whether it involves coaches or players. When something like this happens and he doesn't take action and then lies about it, he is completely to blame for the lack of action taken.
The OP is an absolute fricking moron.

Wasn't a reason ESPN slow to reporting this story today because it was one of their former laid off journalists that broke the story?

Guess I see how this thread has the upvotes now. There are enough trashy hillbillies out there that are okay with retaining an a-hole that beat his wife and then denying ever having any knowledge of the situation when he CLEARLY did.
The ignorance of people as a whole never ceases to amaze me.

With the relationship Meyer had with this guy and the length of time he had been on staffs with him. There is no way Meyer had no idea about his temper.
From Meyer’s position it doesn’t matter if he is guilty or not, it’s not Meyer’s job to decide that. He is supposed to pass it up the chain.

The man about to be fired didn’t beat anyone.
In addition to all of his other responsibilities, he’s also supposed to be the moral police and regular police as it relates to allegations of third party actions towards a spouse.
Since he didn't beat anyone, he will not be going to jail and perfectly free to choose another job where he doesn't need to be bothered by these rules in the contract he signed.
