If they didn’t lose to Auburn they’d be fighting for a shot at the playoffs.

The Texas games means 0 for LSU.

UGA lost to South Carolina and is in a win and you’re in situation.

Yup been saying this a lot, the system is deeply flawed.

But had they won, there would be no question.

It’s not the Auburn loss that’ll keep them out... it’s losing to ASU.

Cuts both ways.

A win there gives you a ton of cred in a pool of one loss teams.

Urban's talked about this a few times in the Big Noon Kickoff show. There's too much risk and minimal reward.

It's only really panned out for Ohio State the year they won in Oklahoma.

If Oregon didn't play Auburn and beat a cupcake they would have a weaker resume than Oklahoma with the same record and would be relying on the eye test

Agreed, schedule cupcakes (but not FCS) it's not worth the risk, you aren't gonna get left out with the current system if you have no good ooc wins

Strong OOC win(s) MIGHT mean something if you have 1 loss.

Otherwise, the committee has given ZERO reason for anyone to schedule tough opponents.

Clemson is going to walk into the playoffs after the playing the below schedule.

quote:

3-9 GA TECH
7-5 TEXAS A&M
5-7 SYRACUSE
7-5 CHARLOTTE
6-6 UNC
6-6 FLORIDA STATE
7-5 LOUISVILLE
6-6 BOSTON COLLEGE
8-4 WOFFORD
4-8 NC STATE
8-4 WAKE FOREST
4-8 SOUTH CAROLINA (Signature win according to Dabo)

But had they scheduled a school like Austin-Peay instead of Auburn to open the season, there'd be no question. They would be in with a blow out win over a Top 5 Utah team.

I think ultimately they're a net negative, but they have benefits if you win.

For sure, but if you're LSU, there was no benefit to playing Texas.

If a one loss Auburn makes the SEC title game and wins, playing Oregon doesn't matter.

Clemson is in the shittiest P5 conference. There is no reason for them to play anything other than remedial schools for their OOC.

Had Alabama played a tougher OOC schedule, they'd still be on the outside looking in.

Win the conference title in a P5 conference with 0 or 1 loss and you're in, basically no matter who you played OOC.

Oregon was never getting into that #1 slot prior to the finals anyway considering the low regard most everyone has for the Pac 12 right now.

They'd be happy just to get there.

Schedule Rutgers, Purdue, Maryland, Arkansas, vandy, UCLA, and anyone in ACC minus Clemson.

Same thing as scheduling an FCS school but all the credit of “Power 5” scheduling

Yep. See both OU and Ohio St when they had their home and home two years ago.

Schedule bottom feeders in the Power 5.

Rutgers, Maryland, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Kansas, the entire ACC minus Clemson
