re: Oregon proves schools shouldn’t schedule real OOC games

Urban's talked about this a few times in the Big Noon Kickoff show. There's too much risk and minimal reward.
It's only really panned out for Ohio State the year they won in Oklahoma.
Or you run the risk of what LSU did. Go to Austin play a motivated healthy Texas team, pull out the win and it still doesn’t benefit us because they bottomed out.

They’d be a lock for the playoffs and ranked 3 if they didn’t pull off spectacular choke jobs against both Auburn and ASU

Ironic that we're using Oregon as the example of why it's dumb to schedule tough OOC opponents when Oregon was shut out in 2001 and 2012 because their schedule wasn't as tough as the teams who qualified in those respective years.
The sjw has a great point.

If they didn’t lose to Auburn they’d be fighting for a shot at the playoffs. The Texas games means 0 for LSU. UGA lost to South Carolina and is in a win and you’re in situation.
Exactly. System is broken.

Idk the PAC 12 is pretty week.
Realistically idk why they were ranked over OU.
Realistically idk why they were ranked over OU.

Because OU just farted around all season but big 12 offenses are designed to make games look closer than they really are

If Oregon didn't play Auburn and beat a cupcake they would have a weaker resume than Oklahoma with the same record and would be relying on the eye test
They could have played Boise or Hawaii or a halfway decent MWC team.
But there is a damned if you do, damned if you don't component. Rece Davis pointed out Baylor has the worst OOC SOS in all of D1 and if they win they are in the playoff unless UGA beat LSU

Win the conference title in a P5 conference with 0 or 1 loss and you're in, basically no matter who you played OOC.
Except this year.
IF Oregon doesn’t lose to Auburn you’re looking at:
Undefeated presumptive ACC champ
Undefeated presumptive Big10 champ
Undefeated or 1 loss presumptive SEC champ
1 loss Big12 champ
1 loss Oregon
Someone is getting left out, and a win over Auburn probably puts Oregon in over Oklahoma/Baylor.

There’s no doubt it would but there’s a very good chance they’d be in at 12-1 without playing Auburn.

Which is still a better spot than where Oregon is today.

Yeah but the point is, Oregon did not beat Auburn. At 12-1 Oregon would have a pretty decent chance of getting in.
