When he says short, he means there is video of her kicking impossibly short FGs. Like kicking from the 3. I do believe she was a perfect 4/4 on 13 yd attempts though.

Greater than or less than 30?I feel like that would be the benchmark bc I would think a school like Vandy could find someone on campus that could routinely make it from that distance with a rush.

Just playing devils advocate but do you really want to run your punter out there on kicks too and risk being without a kicker or a punter? Since they had no replacement for either.

Not saying there weren't other options but not wanting the punter to do it isn't that crazy.

Less than an extra point. Literally.

As much of a media circus this stunt caused, don't you think you would have seen her drilling 30-35 yard field goals in warmups if she did it? I saw her kick 5 kicks inside of extra point range. Zero from extra point range or farther back.

I mean, it has certainly caused a great deal of melt on this website. Maybe Derek Mason posts here.

They have 2 punters and 3 male kickers on roster

Worthless game for a terrible team during the COVID exhibition game season. Might as well let her kick. Some of you guys have lady-issues to deal with.

So purposefully giving his opponent good starting field position is his attempt at coaching not to get blown out?

And one less person to make a potentially TD saving tackle if he breaks free. I have to assume that a guy has a better chance of making a half asses tackle, even if he’s just the kicker.

The problem with the publicity stunt is the timing considering it was a major distraction for the actual team who had been playing hard to help Mason keep his job.

The last two games Vandy has been somewhat competitive (lost by 7 @ MSU, covered the spread against Florida).

I can imagine some of the players on the team and other coaches were thinking "why the frick are we introducing this distraction into our football program?".

Not making excuses. Just saying the logic behind it. Mason has coached like that all year. Seems like he has been coaching trying not to get blown out as opposed to coaching to win.

The play fit in with the way he has coached all season.

He never looked like he had confidence in his team.

The squib was the result because that’s all she could do. It wasn’t like she could kick it deep and they opted for the squib.

The worst thing was seeing all of these older c*nts on Facebook acting like this was some memorable/historic event that "will open doors for girls everywhere." It's like they think that in the next 5-10 years, girls will represent 50% of all the Division I football scholarships because of what Vandy did with this girl. I saw several talk about how inspiring it is to their teenage daughters.

What a complete load of f*cking bullsh!t.

Yeah, yeah, I know -- get off Facebook.

It was one of the dumbest moments in sports history.

The announcers and “journalists” and networks who breathlessly praised are every bit as guilty as Mason himself.

Two points --

1. They had their script.

2. They wanted to keep their jobs.

It is a stunt. You can’t tell me that on a roster full of division 1 athletes there wasn’t somebody that could kick better than this chick.

And the fact that they let her address the team at halftime is comical and a slap in the face to the real football players.

That being said, I’m sure there would be some guy on LSU’s campus that kicked on his HS football team that could’ve done that too.

It was for sure only about the publicity, but they said school had let out already so no one was on campus for tryouts except other athletes FWIW.
