You're just getting old yourself. I'm 66 years old, and I've seen it happen to many great athletes. Guys last much longer in today's world that they did back in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Back then, a torn ACL could do this to an NBA athlete like Calvin Natt. Technology and medical knowledge have made athletes, and regular folks, able to continue to be great long after injuries that used to end careers.

I wasn’t being witty at all. My comment was serious. He was league MVP in 2013 (and also first-team All-Pro in 2012).

Just two seasons later in 2015, he was so bad he was benched for Osweiler (before being reinstated), finished with 9 TDs and 17 INTs and finished 28th in QBR. They did win the Super Bowl thanks to the defense, but Trent Dilfer’s playoff and Super Bowl stat lines in 2000 were better than Peyton’s in 2015.

The neck injury was 2011. I’m sure it ultimately contributed to the downfall, but he still played at an extremely high level for two seasons after the surgery.

Does this board not remember this at all, or is it just a bunch of 16-year-olds posting here?

The Seahawks routinely had a bottom 3 OL too.

This is a myth. Half of the sacks they gave up were from Russell holding the ball 5 plus seconds.

Exact reason why cam newton faded away post age 30 … his game was built on athleticism not quarterbacking

Patrick Mahomes tailspin the last 3 years has been insane. He went from Goat contender to 19th best QB in the league overnight.

He still is a GOAT contender. He, and Andy Reid, had to totally redesign their offense to this quick-passing west coast type of offense once Tyreek left and father time caught up to Kelce. I think they've done a hell of a job with that, all things considered. It's obviously not as fun to watch, but it's still pretty damn effective. With Worthy on the team now, and Rice coming back, I think you'll start to see their offense begin to open up again.

That’s why he’s not a GOAT. GOAT’s like Brady and Brees, made everyone else around them good. Didn’t matter who they had as receivers.

It seems like it at times - especially when threads get taken over by endless player name replies.

You made a solid post. I'm sorry I sh*t on it.

(Now wait for the replies.)

Peyton Manning.

ETA: Apparently very few of you remember how amazing he was in 2012 and 2013 (league MVP) to benched for Brock Osweiler in 2015.

Payton was amazing. Yes, we remember him battling back from a broken neck, risking debilitating injury at age 36, winning that MVP and leading the Broncos to that an eventual SB. But by 2015 he was done and 39 years old.

PM had the heart of a champion. Much respect from all.

Russell Wilson started off like fire, hungry and fearless. A leader.

But became a prima donna while seemingly tossing in the towel after his couple of big payday. Players and fans noticed he seemed to change.he became sloppy, also shying away from getting hit or hurting his pretty face. It appeared he's lost the respect of his teammates for a while now.

Mahomes dragged them to the super bowl last year and they went 15-2

"making everyone else around them good" isn't the standard you want to use to criticize Mahomes

Manning was a physical thing, Wilson and Geno Smith just fell off a cliff.
Pete Carroll saw Wilson decline, but missed on Smith.
