How does a program that has 12 natties have such a poor program now. I get that their run was in the 70s, but damn. Hell even for multiple decades there was a west coast baseball fear in Omaha and these guys were never present. Incredible to see them boast 2,500 capacity in their recent announcement.

This is the norm - down here we are the exception. It's starting to trend up a bit. 5 years ago only about 20 teams averaged more than 3000 per game attendance paid last year 27 teams averaged 3000 or more per game paid attendance.

sometimes you have to pick and choose where you're going to spend when it comes to complying with Title IX

USC is private… they don’t have to comply with Title IX spending parity.

USC was good for most of the 1990s. Tuition has skyrocketed since then and college baseball only offers 11.7 scholarships. It's the same reason Tulane is no longer competitive.

Bet their attendance sucked then too.

I spent a fair amount of time in Orange County when I dealt with our office out there.
The general consensus was that the LA area had so many options for entertainment that sitting in a stadium…of any kind… just wasn’t a thing.

Podunk town like Baton Rouge loves college baseball. A major city like Los Angeles doesn’t care, they have more entertainment options

This may come as a shock to you but the average sports fan doesn't care about college baseball.

USC absolutely has to comply with Title IX even as a private school.

What has never made sense to me is why USC doesn’t have a softball team with all the talent in Souther California. Would probably be very good quickly and a good add of a popular womens sport.

The main thing is that the Pac-12 just doesn't prioritize it. It's like the SEC used to be with basketball.

There were many sold out SEC basketball arenas in the 80’s. It’s not a prioritization issue. It’s simply that very people nationwide care about CBB. That’s not a good or bad thing. Just reality.

That doesn’t mean that LSU fans shouldn’t care or be proud of their program. It’s that you shouldn’t compare LSU to the rest of the country. LSU’s fan support is the rare exception. USC’s is the norm.

I think they averaged 684 per game and were still in the top 100

11.7 scholarships.

A partial scholarship at USC is still triple tuition at most contending schools.

Who the hell wants to take out hefty loans chasing greatness?

Private schools can get around the 11.7 rules, that’s not why they aren’t good or why people in LA don’t care

The overwhemlingly vast majority of sports fans in this country don't give a single frick about college baseball.

Do you even know what a “podunk town” is? Probably not a state capitol with 870,000 people. Think Dry Prong.

The statement should be college baseball just isn’t big anywhere but the SEC and a few other places. Hell I’d make that assertion to all college sports including football nationwide.

Eight of the Top 10 schools in college baseball attendance for 2023 were from the SEC. One of the non-SEC schools (Texas) will be joining the conference next year.

This - be loud and proud. We can't make the rest of the country love college baseball but our pride should not be linked to that.
