I didn't understand why they would go for 2 instead of kicking the field goal either. Guess they wanted a 12 point lead instead of 11. The 2 point conversion failed.

They were trying to protect themselves from a New Orleans touchdown, two point conversion, and field goal comeback. I kind of think they were overthinking that a bit too, especially as weird as this game has been. This is the kind of game where that kind of decision leads to an interception being returned for two points for the Saints.
