The fact the ground makes it an incomplete catch is what is so laughable. Ground can't cause a fumble but it can cause an incomplete catch lol.

He caught the ball in the process of falling to the ground.

He didn't maintain control.

I don’t care for either team so I say this without a concern over who won...watching that guy catch it, take a knee to the ground, then lunge over goal line, I don’t care if he dropped it after or not. That should be a TD. If there are rules that say it’s not, then the NFL is worse than I previously thought.

As I've said in other threads, a ball is almost always spinning a little in a guy's hand when you look at it in slow motion, so every catch is in doubt
the ball went from being between both hands to his left hand twisting to where the back of his left hand was on the football. He didn't maintain control. Due to his left hand twisting the ball was no longer under his complete control.

I posted this gif in the other thread about it.

I cannot tell the ball hit the ground or if he could have had his right arm under the ball.

The ball obviously is on the ground considering
No

It damn sure probably did hit the ground.

But there isn't 100% proof.

It's clear the ball moves from his own hand not the ground.. there's no indisputable evidence the ball was on the ground without his hand under it .. if it would've been called incomplete I'd say the same thing regarding overturning it to a catch..

One of the first thing he says in the video is, "Roethlisberger completes a pass."

Catch it is!

the narrator explains it

he said the guy was already falling to the ground (he had left the ground and was in the air) before the ball was in his hands

the rules state the catch has to "survive the ground" in that instance

it did not; he lost control as he hit the ground.

it was the right call by the rule

My problem is not that it is the Patriots, but how insane the rule is.

The rule is dumb but it's a rule. By rule, that is an incomplete pass. You must maintain possession all the way through as you make contact with the ground. Had he caught that ball on a fade route into the end zone and lost control of it as he went to the ground there would be no questioning the refs. But because he stretched the ball across the plane, everyone is pissed off.

Why are people coming in here posting the rule?

We know the rule. We don’t like the rule.

I didn’t realize this at first, but the guy narrating the video literally says “Roethlisberger completes a pass to James” to start the explanation.

I posted that in my post in this thread I guess people thought I made it up like they made up an incomplete pass

I thought his left hand just came off the ball but I was wrong. He actually purposefully spins it upwards against his right hand with his left hand to keep it from touching the ground.

The fact that you even question what is happening means it shouldn't be overturned

Well then you are beyond debating. The tip of the ball is clearly touching the ground.
