I just said Hammond because that’s where the Interstates meet. Development is moving to that area because it’s the physical population center of 2 million people in BR, NOLA, and the Northshore
It may be the psysical center of a large circle, but there isn’t enough population close enough. People aren’t driving 30-50 miles one-way on a Tuesday night.
The only place an arena works is the current place. You can get corporate sponsorship and the after work crowd.

SKC has a JetIce system and plant already in place.
Outside of maybe some Disney On Ice performances, have those systems been used in last 20 years?

fun fact,
the first and ONLY Louisiana-born, NHL player is current 24-year old, Mason Lohrei of the Boston Bruins.
he was born in Baton Rouge when his father David Lohrei was head coach of the Kingfish.

That’s a good one. I have one also…not Louisiana related, but it’s a fun trivia question for me.
The first US born player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy was Brian Leetch of the NY Rangers in 1994. He was born in my hometown, Corpus Christi, TX.
Obviously, he wasn’t raised there. But still…not many people would get the state, much less the city correct.

The expansion fee for the Kraken was $650 million. Who in NO is going to afford that? The renovation for that arena was over $1 billion.
It’s more a new arena than a remodel. I think the roof structure is the only remnant of the previous arena.

Todd Graves could afford it, if he really absolutely wanted a pro sports team to call his own.

I’d rather he buy the Saints

If tweet fails to load, click here. Landry seems on board and giving it some legs. I still think this is being used as leverage by the state for Saints/Pels lease negotiations and potentially new arena build for pels.

I just don’t see an NHL team taking root in New Orleans to the point where it survives.
Too many games in the year, not enough corporate sponsors, and not a lot of local engagement in the sport as opposed to football, baseball, and basketball.
It may change if they do like the Knights and win a title in their first few seasons, but I don’t see lighting in a bottle happening again.

Not speaking to the specific New Orleans black population, but to the black population in general as it applies to NHL attendance and viewership. Statistically, black people are not interested in hockey and do not play hockey.
But hey, maybe NO is different than the current demographics
NHL fan demographics

SEC hockey. It would be incredible to watch.
If it werent for Title IX, both hockey and wrestling would be incredible niche sports in the SEC.
The problem isnt the fanbase, its the facilities. I dont beleive a single SEC on campus arena has that capability and it would be a massive expense to do so. And it will not work if it is not an on campus event (Austin and Lexington and maybe BR with a planed new arena being the exception)

I'd buy season tickets in a heart beat. Nashville predators game was electric when I went a few years ago. Hockey is way more enteetaining than the NBA

Live NHL Hockey is amazing, I'm going to the Blue Jackets game Saturday night

It won’t happen but I believe Landry is on board with new arena for PELS and concerts and will use the possibility of an NHL team to bolster the support. Would be nice to have some NHL exhibitions games

Yes. I think that's ultimately what's really going on.

If Atlanta and Houston get teams (as rumored) and the NHL realigns so Atlanta, Houston, Nashville, the Florida teams and a potential NOLA team played a good bit that would make for some fun rivalry games.
