Just started watching this but had to turn it off listening to Matt Leinrart and these idiots try and say they were back to back national champions. It’s mind boggling they try to claim a national championship without playing in the national championship game

Vince was seen as a gamble more than a “sure thing.”

A better story would be his career at Texas and when Mack Brown finally decided to let “Vince be Vince.” The world and USC found out what that meant.

He’s a miserable old prick

Jeff Fisher just couldn’t stand him.

There was a big power struggle within the organization for the draft that year. Fisher, being a west coast guy wanted Leinart, Bud Adams of course wanted the Houston guy (Young), meanwhile the fan base wanted Cutler.

He says he wanted Cutler, which makes sense as he's a better pure passer than Young was. But man, does he come off bad in this documentary.

Watched it last night. All it did was reinforce my hatred of Jeff Fischer. Most overrated coach in the history of sports. Just a total douche of a human being.

He wasn't too bright. Scored a 6/50 on the Wonderlic IIRC. That might've been why.

In the documentary Fischer admits he did not want to draft him. Said he wanted Cutler. I don't believe him because that would have been the smarter pick and Fischer is not a smart guy.

The Titans owner wanted Young because it would piss Texas's governors wife off. She said she would jump off a cliff if the Titans drafted Young so he wanted Young in hopes that she did. At least that's what Fischer said in the documentary.

Great way to determine the 3rd overall pick.

shite when I made the comment in that thread I hadn't even gotten to the part about him not writing VY back

I'm sure Jeff largely blames VY for his eventual firing in Tennessee but man at least fake some reflection for the cameras

but they did say that altercation between them was really bad so maybe Jeff has just never gotten over it.

eta: you also forget just how bad of a passer VY is....the people that think he'd be much better off in today's NFL are wrong. Low IQ, horrific passer, and in bad shape....recipe for failure in any era

It just feels like Fisher should've been pissed at the owner and not Young. It's not VY fault the organization chose him.

Vince rookie year he was clutch that’s why we won. Giants we trailed 21-0 in 4th and won, cardinals we went 99 yards to win at the buzzer like a 12 play drive with numerous lucky plays. But no matter how bad he was if he had the ball at the end he would deliver usually

Vince definitely had some growing up to do but Fisher comes out looking pretty bad in this. That set up with the gun was pretty fricked, he could have just talked to him 1 on 1. Looks like he was right to want Cutler out of Cutler, Leinart, and Vince though lol.

I’m watching the Vince Young documentary on Netflix… and I had an epiphany… with a chance to clinch the National Title over Texas, Pete Carroll called a vanilla run up the middle for Lendale White and it got STUFFED…

… could that be why - years later - he threw it with Russell Wilson from the 2 yard line, instead of ramming it in with the great Marshawn Lynch against Belichick’s Patriots?

In the end… Carroll lost BOTH games.

Fisher is bitter lol. I can see it though - he was with Oilers/Titans for 15 years before being fired in 2010.

My only Vince Young Titans memory is his GW drive against ARZ.

Which headbutt would hurt worse?

The play call was fine, White was dominating in the 2nd half. The oline just whiffed on that play. Pete should've also had Reggie out there as a decoy.

A play that's forgotten is the previous play. LenDale was about a yard short of a first down but fumbled the ball backwards into Steve Smith's arms, fortunately. So 4th and less than a yard turned into 4th and 2. That turned out to be huge.
