Fordham men's basketball must vacate wins across two seasons and former coach Keith Urgo was hit with a two-year show-cause penalty under NCAA sanctions for recruiting violations.
The Rams were placed on three years of probation and must vacate 41 wins over the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons for impermissible benefits during recruiting visits. The program also was fined $35,000, plus 2% of the men's basketball budget.
Fordham said in a statement it cooperated with the NCAA Committee on Infractions and self-imposed sanctions prior to completion of the investigation.
The improper benefits included a photo shoot at Times Square, jet ski rentals and tickets to New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and New York Giants games.

Not sure why any schools are cooperating anymore

IIRC, Arizona got hit with penalties at one point because one of the Walton kids invited a teammate to an NBA playoff game where Bill Walton was on commentary and had comped tickets.
It’s fricking stupid how this is handled.

UNC showed everyone how to handle the NCAA and if that doesn't work, just sue. It's basically impossible for the NCAA to win a lawsuit now

Duke must have done some bad shite for Fordham to get hit.

Exactly!
A few years back Oklahoma State basketball cooperated with the NCAA and, in return, had the NCAA hit them with a postseason ban on the eve of the beginning of the season. Their HC and AD held a press conference where they basically said the moral of their story is to "not cooperate with the NCAA". Other programs caught up in similar investigations didn't really cooperate and they received FAR less significant sanctions.
The business of college football and basketball have gotten far bigger than the NCAA can handle. The NCAA loses basically anytime an issue is brought to court. Ignoring them is often the best approach

This is such an outdated way of penalizing schools.

This is more inline with what penalties should be. Fine them and move the frick on. Punishing players that were not involved is ridiculous.

Didn’t one of the Arizona players catch a ride from someone and the NCAA tried to penalize Arizona?

We're to the point now where coaches can make the case for needing to be treated as well as student-athletes rather than the other way around.

Or Syracuse.
NCAA had to enter NY State based on a complaint, but sure as hell weren't going to bust a P5/Major program. So they dug into Fordham while they were there and found something to "teach everyone a lesson".

This is what has been wrong with the NCAA for decades and why many fans want them to die (which they are). You slam a Fordham but NEVER go against a big school. They are a joke and I hope schools create their own organization.
