Shams:

quote:

Landmark day in the WNBA: New collective bargaining agreement that has raised average salaries to six figures for first time ($130,000, up to $500,000 for top players), improved travel and marketing opportunities, and fully paid salary on maternity leave among other changes

Someone said the average salary is now what basically the max was previously.

Good. This is classic supply and demand. America can’t get enough layups.

You need to invest and do things like this if you want the sport to get better. You need young girls to see it as a viable career to choose it over other options or sports. Regardless of how much “I don’t care about women’s sport.

It’s the same reason people should want the women’s soccer team to be paid more. Y’all wanna win world cups or nah?

Sports aren’t a viable career for 99% of the population.

Ok sure, but it’s saved a ton of people’s lives by giving them an out another option. It can at least give people one more dream and option.

Great tax write off. Let’s see how long it lasts when the next tv deals are 20% or more lower than they currently are.

I don’t care. Next time the ladies complain about not being paid enough (which will inevitably happen again at some point), we can now point to the fact that WNBA salaries are a much larger piece of the pie than NBA salaries are.

Now they get more of a portion of revenue than NBA players, right?

I think there is a difference between being "butthurt" (whatever the hell that means) and simply just recognizing the absurdity of the move SOLELY on the basis of virtue signaling.

It's the NBA's business and they are free to do whatever they want. But let's face it, whatever they were making before was probably too much relative to the market demand for women's professional basketball. I'm happy for the players as they will earn more money. It's just the annoyance of the vapid virtue signaling that will be quick to follow as if this is some "landmark" accomplishment when, in reality, it is nothing more than the business willing to dump more money into non or minimally profitable business as a PR measure. It's not some equality victory that was earned by changing deep set beliefs. But that's how it will be portrayed.

in the grand scheme of things it's a drop in the bucket. So it's really whatever. And no need for a PR shitsorm. Just do this and call it a day..

I'm so appalled those women had only a low 6 figure average salary. Simply disgusting and shameful. Very few people can survive on such crumbs.
