I wonder if the NBA subsidizes the WNBA in order to get large tax breaks from the government sort of like how Amazon and Netflix claims to be “losing money” every year.

They already were larger than they deserve. It's funny no one saw it that way though. This is a textbook case study in socialism.
The WNBA players didn't deserve what they got based on the market but the ultra rich NBA subsidized them. Will this be enough? Doubt it. They'll be bitching again before too long.

I don’t mind the true star players like a Brittney Griner getting higher salaries.
The problem with raising them for everyone is that the WNBA is a barnacle on the arse of the NBA. If it were capable of producing its own money, I wouldn’t mind salaries being raised overall. But it is a drain on revenue from the NBA.
If I were CP3, LeBron, Curry, etc, I would be pissed at money that could go to me or my teammates being spent on people who don’t sell tickets.

It's kind of the opposite. Whether the NBA is doing this as an investment in quality or as a move to better its PR, it's a private company doing what it feels is most in its interests to do.
Capitalism revolves around private businesses making the decisions they feel are best for their own interests.

Why would NBA care, in last deal they got the suckers at ESPN to continue showing their games, and put $$ into the league.
