Since 2000, we have made annual trips to Dega. The cost for the weekend has absolutely skyrocketed. I understand why the stands are half full. Compound that with the same 2/3 drivers dominating every race and people turn the channel or stay home.

Yep. Jimmie Johnson’s dominance hasn’t helped either. Not to mention, there aren’t any good and longstanding rivalries anymore.

This. NASCAR began in the Carolinas and there's no race in North Wilkesboro or Rockingham. And the France family did all they could to alienate the traditional fans and turn stock car drivers into cookie cutter guys with national appeal. No Cale Yarborough's or David Pearson's, just a bunch of Yankee drivers with zero personality.

its very true. The cars are identical, there are too many rules that discourage actual racing that made the sport popular, and the drivers are by and large boring dullards.
