Adam Stern? .@NBC earned a 2.7 overnight rating for yesterday's @MonsterEnergy NASCAR Cup Series season finale @HomesteadMiami, down from a 3.3 for last year's race. 9:31 AM - 20 Nov 2017 from Charlotte, NC

The championship race was way down from last year and that was with it being the last race of Dale Jr. and many other popular drivers.

Just about every track had tv ratings at decade lows this year and stands are half full at best for most races.

It's been a slow death for about a decade but it seems to be accelerating.

The next TV deal has to be a fraction of the current one and that will drive many teams who are struggling right out of business.

Boycotts having an effect. Drivers should know how offensive it is to kneel for the anthem.

And at that point NASCAR may have to remove its limits on the number of cars a team could own.

Otherwise you could see this year's winning team, the single-car Furniture Row Racing, go out of business. But if NASCAR removed or upped its limits, then maybe Joe Gibbs Racing would take them over (and make them their Western US branch).

Replace it with darts. I'd rather watch darts.

If "whiny bitch" is the schtick you're going for, you've hit the bulls eye.

Nice.

The whole sport is garbage now. The race setups and dominance by only a few people

Not that I really care about the well-being of NASCAR, but what is the reason for this?

I watched one race in my life from beginning to end, and the result was Dale Earnhardt dying and me not remembering who won...maybe Waltrip?

Wasn’t it pretty popular around then and into the early 2000’s?

NASCAR sucks, so ratings are getting worse.
The SEC horrid this year so ratings for their games are down.
The NFL is an abysmal product so rating keep decreasing.

The fake news New York times ran a good article about this recently. It's not only the big-time drivers retiring, the interest level is falling off a cliff.

quote:

“It’s a very tough time for car owners to find the money that they need to field competitive racecars with competitive personnel,” Kenseth said. “I’ve seen this coming for some time. But I am surprised at how fast it has come to a head.”

NASCAR headed down quickly

What was that racing game where you had missiles and shite like that?

That's what NASCAR needs.

Remember the early 2000s when ESPN/ABC did a NASCAR promo every ten seconds during all of their sporting events? God, those were awful times.
