This. I'm not sure if Alabama fans realize that if Saban was at about 10 other schools (Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas, USC, Ohio State, FSU etc. etc.) they'd be winning at the same clip.

Then LSU shouldn't be included in this list. Only has 2 more losses at Bama with 4 more seasons played.

1. Texas
2. Alabama
3. Ohio State (maybe)

4&5 is debatable amongst several schools.

Exactly. No one would have rated it a top 5 job in 05. It's just dishonest to think it's on par with the likes of Florida, Texas, USC. Jobs are all about the natural resources. Brand is important, but pales in comparison to factors like recruiting base (far and away #1) and financial support. It's also for that reason why I think Notre Dame shouldn't be mentioned in the top 5. I will say this, when the Alabama job comes open it'll be the #1 job based on the foundation Saban has there.

You kidding me baw??? Where you been the last 90 years??

Innately, it goes something like this in levels of resources rather than a top 5:

Texas
USC
LSU/UF/UGA/Bama/TAMU/OSU/FSU

People don't realize Bama has a nice recruiting setup, but it's not as good as Texas, USC, LSU, or probably UF.

It's hard to put USC so high whenever they keep making B level hired like Sark, Kiffen, and Helton. They have all the makings of a top 5 jobs, but surely they should be able to lure in better talent than that

But who would be considered a home run hire? There have only been 3 in college football in the last 10 years.... Saban, Meyer and harbaugh. If Kelly goes back to college that will be a home run hire for whoever gets him. Unfortunately him and usc just weren't a match.

USC, LSU, Georgia, Florida, FSU, Alabama, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State,Texas A&M,Oklahoma.

All have specific advantages that make them great gigs.
Probably forgot a few.

There shouldn't be an SEC school in the top 5

I wouldn't have either. We were in the middle of probation. That's the only reason why it wasn't a Top 5 job.

Texas

I always see this team up there on the list but what have they done in the last 40 years to warrant such a lofty ranking?

We keep on talking program potential but that program has won a grand total of one national championship since 1975 and that title occurred a decade ago.

1) Alabama
2) Ohio State
3) Note Dame
4) Oklahoma
5) LSU

Alabama has 10 poll Era national championships. 4 Undefeared Rose Bowl seasons prior. The state lives on football.

Ohio State is Alabama but in the B1G with not quite as many title. Good coaches at these schools win titles. Great ones have dynasties.

Notre Dame not what she once was (easily even with Bama for one) but Notre Dame still brings major talent and prestige.

Oklahoma has a lot more historical success than Texas and less institutional delusion and pressure.

LSU because of the unbelievable amount of talent in state.

Alabama is only a top 5 job with a Saban type coach at the helm. Once Saban leaves, Alabama no longer is a top 5 job.

Easy question. Iowa is a coach's dream. Put together a couple of good seasons and get rewarded with a lifetime contract getting paid a Top 10 salary without having to answer tough questions from the media.

Probably based on being an immensely rich program with its own tv network and being the brand name program of a state with 300-400 Div 1 recruits every year. No one can touch them in terms of resources.

I will agree that they are the most underachieving program of all time. But what do you think they look like if Saban goes there instead of Mack Brown?

Gene Stallings was by no means a "Saban type coach" and he averaged 10 wins a season, went to the SEC Championship Game four times in five tries, and won a national championship in 1992.

When he resigned at the end of the 1996 season, Alabama was among the Top 5 winningest teams of the decade so far. We could have hired a quality coach. Instead...we promoted Mike DuBose.

Comparing the SEC in 1992 to now isn't a good comparison. No team in the SECW should be in the top 5 imo

How do you think Saban's record at LSU would've looked had he been around 2005-07, let alone beyond that?
