LSU gets most of their guys in Louisiana / the south baw

i didnt know "recruiting nationwide" consisted of snagging a few random guys here and there

Seriously? Just take a look at their roster

its quite obvious ND is the only school which has rosters consisting of players from all over the country, but wouldnt that make the job worse?

I know as a coach id rather pluck of all the talent in-state, rather than flying across country to recruit.

id rank it

1. Ohio State
2. Texas
3. USC
4. Florida
5. LSU

I see your point that the state of Indiana doesn't produce a lot of recruits, but I construe Notre Dame's ability to go into any town in the country and essentially "get a hat on the table" as a great thing.

Notre Dame has their own TV money and doesn't have to share. I don't like the domers but they make the top 5.

1. Texas
2. Ohio St.
3. Notre Dame
4. Alabama
5. LSU
6. Florida
7. Georgia
8. USC
9. Oklahoma
10. Michigan/FSU/Auburn/Oregon

Exactly. No one would have rated it a top 5 job in 05. It's just dishonest to think it's on par with the likes of Florida, Texas, USC. Jobs are all about the natural resources. Brand is important, but pales in comparison to factors like recruiting base (far and away #1) and financial support. It's also for that reason why I think Notre Dame shouldn't be mentioned in the top 5. I will say this, when the Alabama job comes open it'll be the #1 job based on the foundation Saban has there.

But I don't think there is another coach that can fulfill the Alabama fanbase's expectations post Saban.

With the relative parity in cfb these days Bama has nowhere near the advantages it did in the past. You just happen to have the best coach in the nation by a good bit who elevates the program a notch higher

It's hard to put USC so high whenever they keep making B level hired like Sark, Kiffen, and Helton. They have all the makings of a top 5 jobs, but surely they should be able to lure in better talent than that

This. I'm not sure if Alabama fans realize that if Saban was at about 10 other schools (Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas, USC, Ohio State, FSU etc. etc.) they'd be winning at the same clip.

1. Notre Dame. The only true national brand, still holds a cachet no other job has.
2. Ohio St. Dominant program in major conference and home state is loaded with recruits.
3. Florida St. Lacks prestige, but is the single best job for making the playoffs given their conference and loaded backyard.
4. USC. Historic brand, and when they are good, they own the media due to being in LA.
5. Texas. The biggest underachiever in college football given their institutional advantages.
6. Bama. If you are arguably the greatest coach in history (Bear/Saban), you will win. For everyone else, this job is on the same level as the rest of the SEC top tier.
