BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Debbie Rucker, the mother of incoming Indiana freshman offensive lineman Brady Feeney, went to Facebook on Monday asking for prayers for her son, who is struggling mightily with the COVID-19 virus.

"Here is our story...
"My son was negative when he got tested at the beginning of volunteer workouts. Within three weeks he and multiple others tested positive. His university has done everything right by shutting down workouts and retesting the whole team.
"Unfortunately this virus hit my son very hard compared to most of his teammates. Here was a kid in perfect health, great physical condition and due to the virus ended up going to the ER because of breathing issues. After 14 days of hell battling the horrible virus, his school did additional testing on all those that were positive. My son even recieved extra tests because he was one of the worst cases.
"Now we are dealing with possible heart issues! He is still experiencing additional symptoms and his blood work is indicating additional problems. Bottom line, even if your son’s schools do everything right to protect them, they CAN’T PROTECT THEM!!
"I pray my son recovers from this horrible virus and can lead a healthy normal life!! Football does not really matter when your child’s health is in jeopardy!! Think about it!!! My heart is hurting and I pray for all of these kids and for the people making the decisions about the season!!!

If stories like this start popping up on the regular, don’t expect a season

i gave up on the season a long time ago. the fact that anyone still thinks it is going to happen is beyond me.

the ncaa, conferences, and schools holding practices and team organized activities are being reckless. they have already started the process of at least postponing the season. need to follow thru.

Sounds like she should be thankful her son got this virus when he was on-campus so that he could receive the care from university resources he needed to fight the virus given that he is so overweight and thus at a more heightened risk profile.

He could've gotten it off-campus and been left to his own devices on how to fight it.

Volunteer workouts is basically weight lifting and conditioning.

It's almost a guarantee that he got the virus while outside of that environment.

In other words, it's flawed logic to think that football did this.

The one group I have been worried about during their was Oline and DT. They are obviously the most likely to get hit by this harder.

If her son was afraid why didn't he self quarantine until there is a vaccine?

Because no one has ever shared a water bottle during a workout

The phrase “perfectly healthy” needs to stop being applied to anyone and everyone who isn’t on deaths door.

A 325 pound human being is in no way “perfectly healthy”.

Will not take many cases like these to end any chance of a season

While tragic, he made a choice. He knew that there was a risk of catching covid. If we’re going to continue living life some people are going to get sick. We can’t avoid it and we shouldn’t avoid it.

What’s crazy is we have football Directly lead to kids dying or being paralyzed, horrific leg injuries, etc etc and yet we still go on

But now that football could indirectly lead to someone getting a virus that isn’t that harmful for the extreme majority of cases, we need to potentially shut it down.

Exactly. If an individual is concerned about catching this virus they should stay home. Obviously this football player was not concerned about it. I don't know why his mother feels like she has the authority to lecture to the rest of us.

That's not happening these days...and if it is, it's way outside of the controls and protocol in place.

This guy got the virus, almost certainly, in a social environment outside of the program. The protocol in place for athletes is guaranteed to be more restrictive than other students.

Silence her. We don't need her hysteria being picked up by the media.
