Ed O’Bannon

Lots of other good ones already mentioned. Who wants to party with the Diesel?

Tony Mandarich hands down. Dude was on the cover of SI and was going to be the next NFL great. Second place to Brian Bosworth, who went from potential NFL great to making garbage movies on HBO.

In the same vein, one could perhaps go with Kerry Wood. Though maybe unrealized might be a better label.

Kerry Wood is one of only a handful of pitchers who've been an all star as a starter and reliever. Flashes in the pan don't have 1582 K and average 10.3 K/9.

I remember when Matt Flynn made himself millions off of one game with Green Bay. Seahawks gave him a 3 year contract to come be their starting qb and he never ended up starting for them because of Russell Wilson

Darren Waller. Unreal '19 and '20 seasons + pro bowl and then retired in '24.

2013 silver slugger, all star, mlb rbi leader

After that he had 1.5 years where he wasn’t horrific and set the all time record for most at bats without a hit

quote:

Chris Davis holds the MLB record for the most consecutive at-bats without a hit by a position player, going 54 at-bats without a hit

He kind of came back after several years and was a pretty decent player, for a couple of seasons at least

Jeremy Lin played for a decade in the nba and made $65mil, and it wasn’t because he averaged 25ppg for 3 weeks.

Drew Henson. Guy was given everything on a silver platter and failed at every level. That's at baseball and football.

Fun Joe Charboneau fact: because of multiple broken noses and surgeries, doctors had to drill a hole in Joe's nose.
As a result, he was capable of drinking beer through his nose.

Yeah his 2K yard season was by far his best but he still had 6 straight years with 1400+ scrimmage yards. Not even close to what OP’s talking about
