It’s been mentioned but 83 NC State might be number one.
Watch the 30 for 30 Survive and Advance.
That whole run was absolutely incredible.
Trey Burkes shot against Kansas in 13 deserves a mention.

Villanova's Gary McLain riding the yayo rails during the 1985 Final Four in Lexington.
He was blasted on coke when the Cats went to the White House too:

quote:
”President Reagan was welcoming my teammates and me at the White House and giving his little speech about how inspirational our victory was,” McLain writes. ”And the cocaine had me floating in my own private world. . . . Thinking thoughts like, I could push him in the head, just a little tap, and make news all over the world. That`s how high I was.”

Then NC State dunk to win is still probably the most iconic moment.
Maybe one of the most iconic games was the Bird/Magic final. They would take that rivalry and transform the NBA in the 80s from afterthought to prime viewing.
Weber's TO is a big one, as is the Jenkin's shot.

I know they are going to show that shot every year, and I get sick to my stomach all over again.
Grew up following UH basketball. Watched it in College Station, and everyone in the room was pulling hard for UH. You could hear a pin drop when that happened.

[ Jim Valvano running around the court ]
This has to be #1 by a wide margin.

1990 UNLV unreal team smashing Duke in natty.
Bobby Hurley leaves court w diarrhea.
Duke avenges in national semis the following year.
Joseph Campbell level narrative arc.

Most iconic moments in NCAAT history?
March 14, 1981 - all broadcast in succession that day
1. Saint Joseph's beats no. 1 ranked DePaul after Skip Money Dillard missed a 1 and 1 free throw to ice the game for the Blue Demons, St. Joseph's goes the length of the court and John Smith makes a last-second layup uncovered to win
2. Followed by the infamous US Reed halfcourt shot for Arkansas to knock off defending champ Louisville and including a classic Marv Albert call
3. Capped by Rolando Blackman's last-second shot to upset Oregon State
NBC shifted its audience three times in 97 seconds to capture the latter two finishes
completely unparalled in history

It may not be iconic, but Scotty Thurmon’s rainbow three in the final minute against Duke in the ‘94 final deserves a mention.
Truth.

Aaron Harrison would be another March legend. Hit game winning 3’s against Michigan in the E8 and Wisconsin in the F4.
I was standing in the bar saying "No 3s, no 3s", so of course he hits a 3 using every part of the rim.
Luckily we got payback the following year and derailed what would've been the best season in the history of college basketball

Wisconsin just had to lay an egg against Duke in the final.
Screw the NCAA for matching UK/WISC in the final 4. I think Wisconsin was the one team that actually matched up well with UK. I don’t think Duke would’ve beaten UK.
Wisconsin may have not emotionally recovered before the championship game.

Always thought Duke's last National Championship was one of the easier runs to the Title.
2015 Duke:
(AP rankings at end of regular season)
Robert Morris
San Diego State
#19 Utah
#23 Michigan State
#3 Wisconsin

To me, there has to be meaning to the moment, so a lot of 1st and 2nd round buzzer beaters don't make my list:
31-0 Gonzaga absolutely getting obliterated by Baylor…

Lamont Butler buzzer-beater to advance SDSU to the natty over FAU in 2023. Considering where NIL has the state of the sport headed, probably the highest-stakes game that will ever be played between two mid-majors.

That Georgetown player passing the ball to a UNC player accidentally as time was winding down was pretty memorable

I miss when Dick Enberg would do a highlight reel of all the great moments.

Bryant Gumbel, but still pretty good. This is It GOAT.
