uhh, assuming brittons arm doesnt explode, a jansen/britton duo would be historically good

easily on the same level as what the royals had and miller/chapman

Other Gm's need to take note. Prospects are always risky, but this is how you build a team with real, long-term potential.

They traded away cost controlled stars. I love their farm system but look at their 2016 team, they had a bunch of really good players : Sale, Quintana, Roberson, Eaton, Frazier, Abreu, etc. This prospect base is awesome but they need to be willing to spend money when they have a shot to go for it.

they still did the right thing with those stars

they didnt panic and sell at the deadline last year because they had pressure to do so. they played into their years of control and waited until the right deal came along

they didnt do what the pacers just did with paul george and set an arbitrary timeline and rush a deal through

Ideally you do it like the cubs. Have done home grown pieces to mix in. The Sox don't. Their farm was terrible. They are still a ways off

Definitely. Every team eventually has to spend a bit on top of bringing up prospects, but they at least realized they weren't ready for the next step. The guys they traded were great but by the time the team was ready to fully compete, they might not have as much value.

ETA: It's crazy how much timing plays a factor into good teams. Moves can't just be made because a certain player is good. It almost has to be the perfect storm and the right time to strike.

I didn't want to seem like a homer bringing them up but I agree. In Theo I trusted and still trust.

Cubs revenue has sky rocketed and their tv deal will be up in like 2 years so that will another windfall. Cubs are going to have $200 million + payrolls for the forseeable future so he will probably be fine
