Cubs aren't very good, pitching is terrible. They're 1.5gb.

I guess I just have a hard time believing the cubs will lose

But yes, they still are close and maybe I'm being a little too critical of their chances

I would guess the highest odds of NL wild card game right now would be Brewers and Dbacks but it’s definitely going to be close with many teams

Rockies have been playing very well and are back in the mix too. I’m still not counting Washington out of the East either.

Phillies, Dbacks, Brewers, Cubs, Dodgers have all made moves to get better over the last week. Gotta wonder what the Braves game plan is

TLDR- I’m really looking forward to seeing how the NL playoff race plays out

Can't believe what the Brewers gave up for Moose, seems like an over pay. I mean they could have gotten Esco are who can play multiple positions or Cabrera for cheaper

A couple of notable tweets from this morning..:

quote:

Indians, Phillies Showing Interest In Joey Gallo

quote:

Two prime Brian Dozier landing spots came off the board when the #Dbacks picked up Escobar and #Brewers traded for Moustakas. #RedSox have been mentioned as a possibility because of Pedroia's health, but Boston's focus remains the bullpen. Dozier to Boston "highly unlikely.''

quote:

Some hints of interest in future Hall of famer Adrian Beltre. But 2 things to remember: 1) he has full no-trade rights, and 2) with $18M salary he will clear waivers and can be traded in August

quote:

Sources: Rays and Padres continue to discuss Chris Archer, and one source says they've made progress. TB has shown a greater willingness than in past to deal him, teams say, but the price remains high, and SD is balking for now. As @jcrasnick said, other teams involved, too.

If they deal Archer and Yankees not involved I will be upset as a fan

Yeah here’s another one from Crasnick re: Archer

quote:

The #Rays trade talks on Chris Archer are "intensifying'' as the deadline nears, sources say. Still hard to handicap if anyone will ante up with the return Tampa Bay wants. It's a No. 1 starter type of price tag, and he's under team control through 2021. Multiple teams involved.

I agree and Moose has been mediocre to bad since April. Surely they will get an arm but the market is dwindling. What do I know though? I thought they were crazy to get both Cain and Yellich and that is been two of the best offseason moves out there.

Escobar would have more value I assumed since he can play more positions

AJ Preller wakes up in the morning and flips a coin to decide what he's gonna do that day.

Sign Eric Hosmer to a massive deal

Then ship off my all star closer with years of control remaining

Then trade for a pricey starter

The first thing Preller does after he wakes up is look at the waiver wire and claim the all star closer.
He'll struggle some putting together a team, but he knows how to accumulate talent.

I’m not sure if there’s any GM that has such a disparity between some of the moves he’s made. Preller has made several moves that are absolutely brilliant and several where you wonder what the frick he’s thinking

There's no guarantee that some team in contention won't put in a waiver claim, and that may not be a team where he wants to play. And you can only pull back a player on waivers one time, the second time any claim is irrevocable.

Even the Rangers' resident village idiot isn't that stupid--there's a real good chance that when Beltre enters the Hall of Fame he will do so as a Ranger, no use making him upset and decide to go in as a Dodger or Mariner instead.

They will either trade him in July to a pennant contender where he wants to go, or he will be with the Rangers the remainder of the season.

I think you’re overvaluing Phillips. Realistically he’s a 4th OF’er that could may be able develop into a Keirmaier type. Now with that said, you’re right in that Escobar or Asdrubal made more sense. The majority or the prospects that have been moved, probably only Mejia has potential to be an impact player. I do like the prospects the Astros gave up. There’s still good ceiling to be had with those two... with high volatility of course.

yeah the brewers did not give up anything except organizational depth. The fit is questionable but the price isnt
